Job Title: Lumber Yard Supervisor

Location: Newark, NJ

Position Overview:

The Lumber Yard Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of a lumber yard, including inventory management, customer service, and team supervision. This role requires strong leadership skills, knowledge of lumber products, and a commitment to safety and efficiency.

Responsibilities:

• Lead and manage a team of yard workers, including assigning tasks, providing training, and ensuring adherence to safety protocols and company policies.
• Oversee the receipt, storage, and distribution of lumber products, ensuring accurate inventory records and timely replenishment of stock.
• Interact with customers to fulfill orders, provide product information, and address any inquiries or concerns in a courteous and professional manner.
• Inspect incoming and outgoing lumber shipments for quality, quantity, and compliance with specifications, rejecting or quarantining defective materials as necessary.
• Coordinate the loading and unloading of lumber products using forklifts, cranes, or other equipment, optimizing space utilization and minimizing damage or loss.
• Enforce safety regulations and procedures to prevent accidents and injuries in the workplace, conducting regular safety inspections and addressing any hazards or deficiencies.
• Ensure the proper maintenance and repair of yard equipment, including forklifts, saws, and conveyors, to maximize uptime and efficiency.
• Prioritize and schedule customer orders for delivery or pickup, coordinating with drivers and dispatchers to meet deadlines and customer requirements.
• Generate reports on yard activities, such as inventory levels, productivity metrics, and safety incidents, and provide regular updates to management.
• Provide ongoing training and development opportunities for yard personnel to enhance their skills and knowledge of lumber products, equipment operation, and safety procedures.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or training in forestry, lumber, or logistics is preferred.
• Previous experience in a lumber yard or similar environment, with knowledge of lumber products, grades, and sizes.
• Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and coach a team.
• Proficiency in inventory management systems and basic computer skills.
• Familiarity with safety regulations and procedures related to lumber handling and equipment operation.
• Physical strength and stamina to lift and move heavy lumber materials, as well as work outdoors in various weather conditions.
• A valid driver's license.
• Forklift experience is preferred but not required.

Schedule and Compensation:

• Monday to Friday: 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM (Sometimes 5pm depending on operational needs)
• Occasional Saturday day shift availability when needed.
• Salary: $50,000 - $70,000 DOE
