Toshiba America Energy Systems Corporation (TAES) provides energy industry solutions – new equipment, retrofits, maintenance, outage planning and more – for current and future power generation needs in the Americas, including thermal, hydro and nuclear power plants.

Position Summary

We are seeking an entry level engineer for the role of Field Services Engineer Trainee to work in the Construction and Field Service department of Toshiba America Energy Systems Corporation to work out of our Milwaukee Service Center. The job functions include traveling extensively to remote power plant facilities to service large, high voltage, synchronous generator stators, rotors, and exciters. While not traveling, emphasis will be placed on tooling and process design.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Field Service Engineer Trainee will learn all of the requirements to become a Field Service Engineer, including the procedures for generator service, electrical testing, visual inspections, diagnosis and troubleshooting, component evaluation, customer service, inspection reports, final engineering reports, and tooling requirements and design. Functions will require both electrical and mechanical abilities with a lot of hands-on learning and development up front. The Field Service Engineer Trainee will begin working alongside technicians in field projects to learn the basis of the generator service projects, while learning the engineering and supervisory roles of the field service projects. It is the intention to have the Field Service Engineer Trainee obtain extensive knowledge and learn electrical testing and other specialized functions quickly in order to facilitate qualification into the Field Service Engineer position. Responsibilities will then include leading entire field projects in a technical and supervisory role of increasing responsibility, as experience and performance allow.

Principal Duties:

  • Field Service for large, high voltage generators
  • Electrical Testing
  • STS testing
  • Resonance (bump) testing
  • Hands-on technician training
  • Process and tooling design
  • Writing field service inspection reports
  • Writing field service final reports
  • Develop field service skill set

Education and Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
  • Must be able to read work documents.
  • Above average verbal and written communications skills, including organization and direction of technical personnel, experience in procedure and process documentation and technical report writing.
  • Familiarity with product and document management, including PDM systems is preferred.
  • Experience in installation, repair, or refurbishment of power generation equipment.
  • Preferred experience working with industrial generators and turbines
  • Knowledge in the use of PCs and PC application software is necessary. Proficient in MS Office (WORD, EXCEL, PowerPoint), Familiarity with AUTOCAD is a plus.
  • Must be able to read construction drawings
  • Must be self-motivated and have the ability to work with little to know supervision
  • Must have good organizational and time management skills
  • Must be able to work in a construction and cold weather environment
  • Must have a valid driver’s license

Travel

  • Over 50%, or may be assigned to a long-term project site
  • Must be able to travel 90% of the time and work significant overtime

The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include Close vision, Distance vision and Ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee frequently is required to talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell. The employee must be able to drive and work extended shifts.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts, fumes, or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee is occasionally exposed to work in high, precarious places, and risk of shock. The employee is occasionally exposed to extreme heat, extreme cold and wet, humid conditions. The noise level in the work environment is frequently loud.
