Touro College of Pharmacy seeks a Research Associate. This position is for an individual who has a background in pharmacy, chemistry, biology, or pharmaceutical sciences and is interested in providing comprehensive support for pharmacy laboratory courses and faculty-sponsored research projects.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Pursue individual research project as directed by the PI.
• Maintain cell culture and conduct cell-based assays.
• Carry out experiments related to recombinant protein expression and purification and molecular biology techniques such as western blots, promoter-reporter assays, protein-protein interactions, site-directed mutagenesis.
• Learn advanced experimental design and be responsible for intellectual commitment to position and relevant literature.
• Maintain a detailed notebook of protocols and research activities.
• Participate in lab meetings and work closely with all members of the lab.
• Assist in the TCOPs pharmaceutics teaching laboratories with a focus on non-sterile and sterile compounding.
• Should be able to work independently and proficient in maintaining and procuring inventories of chemicals, reagents and consumables for research and teaching purposes; routine maintenance of all laboratory instruments; and ensuring appropriate disposal of materials to be discarded.
• Keep an inventory of chemicals, reagents, and consumables; maintain all laboratory instruments, and MSDS sheets.
• Prepare the lab materials used by the students in the compounding lab; keep an inventory; A thorough knowledge of appropriate disposal methods is a must.
• Prepare the compounding lab for each session; ensure that the laboratory is organized and clean, and that each student has all the materials and glassware required for each laboratory session.
• Assist instructors during laboratory sessions and upkeep in the Model Pharmacy.
• Ensure that laboratories are neat at the end of the laboratory session; glassware and instruments are clean and ready for the next session.
• Make copies of manuals and distribute them to the students.
• Organize and maintain the research lab; assist professors and students engaged in research projects.
• Ensure that equipment is properly cleaned and maintained, and that chemicals, drugs and other materials are appropriately stored.
• Ensure that all health, safety and regulatory procedures and policies are understood and followed correctly.
• Perform other activities as requested by the Chair or the Dean.

Education/Experience

• Bachelors Degree in pharmacy, biochemistry/biology or a related field required.
• At least one year of previous molecular and cell biology lab experience is highly preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

• Computer proficiency (in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoints etc.) is expected.
• A high degree of interpersonal competency: professionalism, diplomacy, judgement and discretion required.
• Demonstrated ability to develop positive and cooperative relationships with students, faculty, and colleagues required.
• Familiarity with molecular biological techniques and with cell culture is helpful.
• Experience as a pharmacy technician and/or preparing sterile/intravenous products is a plus.
• Familiarity in running day-to-day activities in a biochemistry/cell biology lab is highly desirable.
