Description

If you have a passion for instructing others and an interest in archery, join our team as an Assistant Archery Coach for Cary's year-round archery program! This position will support the head coach in running the Cary Archery Club, Cary Junior Olympic Archery Development (JOAD) team, introductory archery classes, and senior classes. This position will also provide support to other outdoor recreation programs as needed. We are seeking applicants who enjoy helping others develop and have experience coaching sports; archery experience is a plus but is not required, as development of archery coaching ability will be ongoing.

This is a part-time, non-benefited, year-round position, up to 20 hours a week, with a maximum of 999 hours per year. Primary hours will be Sunday afternoons and weeknights.

Typical Tasks

  • Prepares and takes down space and equipment for programs and classes;
  • Checks in program participants;
  • Ensures range safety is maintained and all protocols are followed during programs;
  • Provides teaching and coaching to program participants;
  • Records skill progression, tournament scores, and other data regarding program;
  • Performs light maintenance and general repair of bows, arrows, and other equipment;
  • Reports supply needs to program manager;
  • Performs other job-related tasks as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge and understanding of sports coaching youth development; knowledge and understanding of the fundamentals of archery and the safe operation of an archery range;
excellent communication skills; ability to interact effectively with the public; physical ability to prepare archery range for lessons; ability to work outside in typical inclement weather, such as summer heat or rain showers; ability to engage with the public in a firm but tactful manner; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions; and ability to acquire knowledge of policies, procedures, and services of the facility, division, and department.

Minimum and Preferred Qualifications

Must be at least 18 years old.

Requires some sports coaching experience; archery experience preferred.

Prefers CPR/First Aid certification, or if not currently certified, the instructor will be required to obtain certification upon hire.

Requires the maintenance of USA Safe Sport Certification.

Requires USA Archery, National Field Archery Association, or equivalent instructor certification, or ability to obtain within 6 months.

Requires drug testing and background check (which may include criminal check, education verification and credit history review) prior to employment.
