Cary, NC is recruiting a skilled and collaborative audio specialist to join our team as a Technical Production Coordinator at the new Downtown Cary Park as we work to support the creation of events and experiences that make Cary one of the best places to live in the country.
The ideal candidate will be able to configure, maintain, and operate technical production equipment as part of a team, as well as occasionally lead contractors, peers, and other employees in work related to the planning, setup, operation, and maintenance of technical production equipment at the Downtown Cary Park. The role will involve considerable contact with clients, who could be citizens or fellow staff, to determine how to best meet their technical needs for events, providing guidance to match needs to resources. Extensive technical knowledge, with the ability to learn and embrace new skills, is required. This position will serve as a technician during events with a specialization in audio and will possess extensive experience mixing sound for live events and concerts. Secondary skill levels are desired in video and rigging. Candidates should have a proven ability to reinvent their production roles and specialties depending on the needs of the moment.
Work will be performed under the regular supervision of the Downtown Cary Park Technical Production Supervisor.

• Configures, sets up, operates, troubleshoots, and strikes equipment at the Downtown Park for events; 
• Leads contract labor, staff, and volunteers to assist with the setup, operation, maintenance, and tear down of equipment;
• Maintains inventory of portable audio and video equipment including microphones, cable, speakers, projectors, playback devices, and supplies;
• Ensures all equipment is maintained and functional;
• Schedules equipment preventative maintenance and performs or coordinates repairs as needed; 
• Recommends equipment replacements and timing of replacements based on use, condition, and technological advancements;
• Develops and documents procedures and configurations in the operation of applicable technical systems, creating efficiencies where possible;
• Instructs and mentors staff, contractors and volunteers on applicable technical systems and on new techniques or newly acquired equipment;
• Enforces safety protocols and ensures all work is performed in accordance with Cary and OSHA safety standards and procedures;
• Assists in determining labor needs for upcoming events, which may include communicating with contractors;
• Opens and closes spaces within the Downtown Park as needed, related to the operation of events;
• Determines venue’s ability to meet tech riders for visiting artists in relation to audio needs; 
• Schedules calls for assigned events and spaces in scheduling system;
• Documents production plans in Cary event planning systems, communicating with the various stakeholders;
• Purchases equipment, parts, and supplies as needed for operation of Park spaces;
• Assists with the preparation and management of the production operating and capital budget for the Downtown Cary Park;
• Communicates and collaborates with Cary’s Technical Production group;
• Assists with other Cary events as capacity allows, prioritizing events in the Downtown Cary Park;
• Performs other job-related tasks as required.

Specialization and comprehensive knowledge in the area of audio production for concerts, events, film playback, etc.; general secondary skills in other technical areas such as video and rigging are also desired, with the ability to cross train on lighting systems; specialized and comprehensive knowledge to operate production equipment for events; experience with Allen & Heath Dlive audio equipment, DANTE audio networking, and/or Danley and Powersoft amplifiers; comprehensive knowledge of microphones, their application, and placement for bands and orchestras; basic computer networking competency is required for the setup and operation of above mentioned equipment; excellent communications skills and ability to liaise with Town employees and community groups, artists, renters, citizens and volunteers; ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions; ability to apply principles of logical thinking with technical knowledge to work tasks and handle practical situations and requests made by supervisor, other staff and clients; ability to comprehend, make decisions, and respond to a variety of situations in an expedient manner; ability to analyze and evaluate technical support needs for events either through riders or through communications with clients and/or artists; ability to work independently and as a member of a team, with a commitment to collaboration; ability to work under pressure while adapting to people of varying experience levels; ability to assist with scheduling and exercise good judgment when bringing together production elements; ability to work flexible hours, including required work on weekends, nights, and holidays; ability to work periods of high volume, complex, overlapping work that may occasionally require working in excess of 60 hours in a week; and the ability to be on call.Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree with major coursework in concert production, technical theatre, event production, or a related field.
Prefers at least four years of experience in concert production, technical theatre, or event production.
Physical Requirements
The work in this class is moderate to heavy. An employee in this class will continuously need to speak see, and hear in order to carry out the tasks listed above; visual acuity is necessary in order to read and write handwritten and typewritten materials and view a computer as well as make visual assessments of events at distances of 100' and more; aural acuity is needed to assess and adjust sound quality, tone, and volume of events of all levels; continuously use hands and arms to reach, feel and handle objects; considerable dexterity with hands and fingers is required in order to install and take down technical equipment; required to walk, stand, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl for extended periods of time and lift/push/pull up to 50 pounds; required to work at heights up to 50’ using a boom or scissor lift; and required to work outdoors, exposed to the elements such as heat, cold, and rain.
