Light Equipment Operator
Job Description
The Light Equipment Operator involves the use of town vehicles including Highway Department pickup trucks, dump trucks and plow trucks (CDL-B with endorsements). The Light Equipment operator will also operate sidewalk plows, mowers, backhoe, hand and power tools, two-way radios and other basic maintenance tools for specified work assignments. This is an hourly full time, benefited AFSCME Union position with the Town of Littleton New Hampshire. There are two temporary positions (could become permanent full time) and one permanent position currently available with the town.
This position is under the general supervision of the Working Foreman or the Operations Foreman. Work assignments are made and instructed the details as to what tasks are to be performed. The Light Equipment Operator often performs their assignments with out direct supervision on a day to day basis. The work performed is reviewed daily by the Working Foreman or the Operations Foreman for efficiency and performance necessity. This position must understand and follow oral and written instructions and may occasionally supervise the work of unskilled and semi-skilled
workers involved in routine road maintenance and construction activity as assigned.
*The Light Equipment Operator performs strenuous, physical work under varying and adverse weather conditions including extreme heat and extreme cold that is typical in the New England weather scheme. This position must observe all safety practices and report unsafe conditions to the Working Foreman or the Operations Foreman as needed.
*This position performs maintenance within the Town’s Highways and Streets including laying asphalt, patching holes, laying pipe, repairing manholes, picking up and moving debris. Seasonal winter duties may include plowing snow, hauling snow, spreading salt and sand, summer duties may include cutting grass, limbing trees, raking and sweeping up debris. This position occasionally performs traffic control functions at job sites. This position occasionally operates heavy equipment.
*Other maintenance that involves the Light Equipment Operator is the repair and maintenance of the town’s trucks and maintenance equipment including power tools and other machinery. These assets are maintained in a manner of maintaining the mechanical and structural integrity of these vehicles that stay in compliance with all laws, ordinances, policies and procedures at all times.
*This position must be available 24 hours per day to meet emergency situations as required per union contract including call backs as needed.
**Salary Range: $19.97/ hour (Step one) to $23.14/ hour. (Step 7) based on experience and background.
