Position Type: Data Processing Date Posted: 6/19/2024 Location: Annex Building Town of Vernon Job Title : Senior Network Engineer Department: Data Processing Bargaining Unit: Professional Wage Classification : E-4A - $42.19-$48.91 - 40/week General Statement of Duties : Highly technical position which is responsible for the gathering, analyzing and preparing of information needed to develop new network hardware and maintain or enhance existing equipment. Defines requirements for the improvement or replacement of network systems. Fills in for Director of Information & Communication Technology in his/her absence. Supervision Received : Works under the direction of the Director of Information & Communication Technology. Supervision Exercised : Supervises other department personnel as required or in the absence of the Director of Information & Communication Technology. Essential Job Functions : Designs and implements new network solutions and/or improves the efficiency of current networks. Installs, configures, and supports network equipment, including routers, switches, wireless access points, firewalls, etc. Procures network equipment and manages subcontractors involved in network installation. Maximizes network performance through ongoing monitoring and troubleshooting. Arranges scheduled upgrades, investigates faults in the network, and updates network equipment to the latest firmware releases. Manages VoIP phone systems and is responsible for network security, security administration, and services. Trains new IT staff, develops and implements network security guidelines. Tests and evaluates new network hardware and software, develops system testing for migration and upgrades, and makes recommendations for hardware and/or software purchases. Performs IT investigations and forensics maintaining a high degree of confidentiality, assists in the development of information technology policies, procedures, and standards, participates in the Request for Proposal (RFP) process, performs disaster recovery in accordance with the plan, ensures regular configuration backups, defines network security and control procedures, fulfills administrative reporting requirements, provides and maintains documentation manuals necessary at the operational level, and ensures regular and punctual attendance. Other Job Functions: May be called in to work at the Town's Emergency Operation Center (EOC). Performs related work as required; other duties as required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS : Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required : Considerable knowledge of principles and techniques of network engineering, including implementation and management of network equipment such as routers, switches, wireless access points, firewalls, etc. Possesses expert knowledge in network design. Familiarity with project management principles and techniques, network protocols, architecture, security, and disaster recovery. Demonstrates adaptability to rapidly changing technologies and the ability to learn the functionality of new network equipment quickly. Exhibits excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Capable of working independently and leading teams effectively. Proficient in oral and written communication, with the ability to produce clear, well-organized documentation and communication promptly. Skilled in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other divisions, departments, and employees. Must have and maintain a valid driver's license. Experience & Training : Bachelor's degree in engineering or computer science and 7 years of experience with implementing and designing network infrastructure; equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
