This position is under the general supervision of a Police Sgt., performs a wide variety of law enforcement and community policing activities aimed to protect the life and property of everyone who lives, works, and visits the Town of Zebulon.

Signing Bonus up to $2,000
Residency Bonus up to $10,000Duties and Tasks
  1. Performs a variety of proactive, reactive, and preventative law enforcement duties such as responding to calls for service, enforcing traffic and criminal laws, making arrests, serving warrants, processing and managing crime scenes and evidence, and conducting high-visibility patrols, business checks, welfare checks, and 'park and walks.'"
  2. Prepares and submits detailed and accurate reports on investigations, criminal or traffic, to include person arrested, victims identified, property stolen or recovered, and other incidents requiring reporting.
  3. Prepares and submits detailed daily reports of activities, including requests for time earned and time requested off.
  4. Maintain situational awareness by reading reports and attending and contributing to briefings.
  5. Assists with departmental programs, special events, and community outreach.
  6. Participates in regular trainings and continuing education to maintain required certifications.
  7. Maintains equipment, including firearm and vehicle.
  8. Must be proficient with basic computer skills. Maintain certification levels, passwords and necessary skills to operate various computer based programs as used in daily police business.
  9. Testifies in court.
  10. Performs other duties as required.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each of the essential functions satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are a representation, not an all-inclusive listing, of the knowledge, skill and/or abilities required.
Desirable Experience and Education 
  1. High school graduation or the equivalent.
  2. Minimum qualifications include, but are not limited to, successful completion of Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) certification and meet all essential job functions as expected by the State of N.C. Criminal Justice Training & Standards Division. 
  3. General or Probationary Certification from the State of N.C. Criminal Justice Training & Standards Division. 
  4. No prohibitive criminal or driving history. 
  5. Other qualifications as may be established as necessary for the successful function of this position. 
  6. Valid N.C. Driver’s License.
Physical Requirements
  1. Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, kneeling, walking, standing, fingering, grasping, talking (expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words), hearing (perceiving nature of sounds by ear), and perform repetitive motions.
  2. Must be able to exert up to 70 pounds of force occasionally, 40 pounds of force frequently and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  3. Requires visual acuity to differentiate between colors and shades of color, inspect work for quality, methods and materials, operate a computer, maintain records and reports, use of measuring devices and determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work.
  4. Work is subject to adverse environmental conditions.
  1. At the entry level the employee must have a basic knowledge of criminal laws, statutes and ordinances affecting the employee's jurisdictional area.
  2. Ability to apply such knowledge to a variety of situations.
  3. Ability to deal successfully with a variety of people in day to day situations.
  4. Skilled in the use of firearms and the operation of an automobile.
