Position Summary
The Safety Specialist implements, participates in, and monitors safety training-related activities of utility line construction and clearance crews.
This person must have the ability to assess workplace hazards, determine risks, and provide solutions in an effective, timely, and cost-effective manner.
This position ensures that crews follow compliance requirements while engaging in multi-state utility operations such as electric power lines, large power construction, line clearance operations, tree trimming and rigging, and off-road forestry equipment.
Our front-line safety professionals will be charged with conducting safety inspections, observations, investigations, safety training, and regulatory compliance auditing.
Duties and Responsibilities Include
Essential Duties : Safety
Safety
Assists leadership in confirming employees are fit for duty and have appropriate credentials
Conducts crew audits such as job site set-up, hazard evaluations, proper use of PPE, and equipment
Assists in the development and implementation of the Regional Safety Action Plan
Works with field supervision and Safety to investigate personal injury, vehicle, and property accidents
Assists with the filing of reports and compiling accident statistics on risk assessment
Immediately addresses on-site safety concerns and conducts training when safety errors are witnessed
Training
Serves as technical 'expert' for all corporate and regional training programs
Provides technical support, including but not limited to
Instructional aids, training handbooks, demonstration models, multimedia visual aids, and reference works
Prepares, participates in, and conducts training classes, partnering with third-party services when necessary
Develops and implements a continuous program of safety education, policies, and programs
Works with leadership in identifying training needs and provides continuous training
Assists in the assessment of the job knowledge of employees and monitoring training progress
Attends internal and external training courses which pertain to improving and developing job-related skills
Conducts new employee safety evaluations and orientation
Provides leadership, coaching, and mentoring
Compliance
Responsible for the operational safety results and for reviewing safety tracking, completion, and progress
Ensures compliance of all regional personnel pertaining to OSHA, ANSI, Federal, State, and local regulations
Ensures compliance with all contract and regulatory safety and training specifications and requirements
Conducts inspections of site and vehicles to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations / standards
Responsible for monitoring certifications compliance for the assigned region

What You'll Bring to the Team
High School Diploma, HSE, or GED
Licensed Journeyman with at least three (3) years of experience after completion of the Journeyman program
Knowledge of OSHA standards and DOT requirements
Ability to work within Union and Non-Union workforce
Certified LTE or CTE Arborist, ISA Arborist, or Utility Arborist or ability to obtain within 14 months of employment, when required
Attention to detail
Organizational skills
Strong oral and written communication skills
Ability to problem solve
Meet all physical requirements of the position
Pass all drug and alcohol screens as required by Company policy and, if applicable, required by DOT regulations
18 years of age or older, or 21 if CDL is required
Legally authorized to work in the United States
Preferred :
Herbicide Applicators License, as needed and required by state
