Ferry/Cruise Company seeking Captains (100T or higher) to add to the fleet. We are offering a full time position with guaranteed 40 hours a week- The ferry will leave out of Jersey City and will be either dinner cruises or harbor tours.

Cruise Captain

Responsibilities:

• Lead as cruise captain, ensuring adherence to procedures including thorough pre-cruise preparation, following cruise scripts, supervising crew, piloting the vessel, complying with Coast Guard regulations, and ensuring guest satisfaction.
• Gather essential details for cruise events from other departments to fulfill special guest requests and ensure overall guest satisfaction.
• Conduct pre-cruise meetings, communicating all necessary information to the crew regarding special needs and boarding procedures.
• Ensure compliance with safety standards and procedures for both staff and guests.
• Participate in the execution of the Safety Program, including emergency drills.
• Maintain ship’s systems and boarding facilities, including gangways, diesel, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, water (potable, raw, black, and gray), fire suppression, communications, and navigation.
• Ensure adherence to Coast Guard, federal, and local regulations, and strict compliance with the Emergency Response Plan.
• Execute additional projects as assigned by management.

Operations Team Management:

• Provide training for new crew members.
• Schedule crew according to staffing requirements.
• Follow company performance management guidelines for disciplinary actions and terminations.
• Recommend crew promotions to Marine Management.
• Foster positive relationships with city department heads and peers.
• Promote strong teamwork within the staff.

Guest Service:

• Resolve guest issues using strong customer service skills and effective communication, aligning with company goals for guest retention.

Administration:

• Complete all shift records, including checklists, logbooks, payroll, and safety training documentation.
• Ensure accurate and prompt completion of incident reports.
• Assist in managing the payroll system, including scheduling, verification, transmission, and processing.
• Fulfill collateral duties assigned by Marine Management, such as managing uniforms, crew and safety training, crew scheduling, and routine vessel maintenance.
• Schedule crew work periods to optimize payroll efficiency.
• Attend all scheduled meetings.
• Assist with accounting tasks, including invoice processing.

Other:

• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements & Qualifications:

• Current 100-ton license with a satisfactory record.
• Minimum of five (5) years of marine experience, ideally including two (2) years as a captain with a commendable track record.
• Thorough knowledge of all ship’s systems and their maintenance: gangways, diesel, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, water systems (potable, raw, black, and gray), fire suppression, communications, and navigation.
• Proficiency in operating vessels in accordance with Coast Guard rules and procedures.
• Strong vessel handling and navigation skills.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to handle internal and external guests with patience, tact, and diplomacy.
• Strong interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
• Analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Demonstrated capability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
