For more details visit www.flytradewind.com About the Role: Tradewind Aviation is seeking a Director of Safety to join our growing team. The Director of Safety reports to the Chief Operating Officer and Accountable Executive and is primarily responsible for Tradewind Aviation's Safety Management System as well as developing, documenting, and distributing new policies and procedures. Along with all Tradewind Aviation Management team members, the Director of Safety will oversee the development and implementation of any new programs in response to the needs of the company or new regulatory requirements. The Director of Safety will have the primary responsibility to administer the company safety program and for researching the relevant regulations, guidance provided by any governmental agency, industry best practices and current Tradewind Aviation practices during the development of any new programs. RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Oversee and Manage Tradewind Aviation's Safety Management System (SMS)
Manage and update Safety Management Manual and Safety Policy
Manage company Safety Assurance program
Manage company Safety Risk Management program
Safety Promotion
Develop and document company safety policies and procedures
Communicate regular Safety Program updates to senior management
Liaison with FAA and other external agencies on safety-related issues
Liaise with other functional departments and team leaders to ensure safety programs are integrated into day-to-day operations as required by the Tradewind SMS
Direct and oversee the implementation and subsequent changes to the SMS as it pertains to all operations while ensuring compliance with the applicable regulations
Chair/Facilitate various Safety meetings/forums
Oversee safety related programs including, but not limited to Aviation Safety Action Programs (ASAP) and Safety Management System (SMS)
Develops strategic initiatives to support the ongoing management of safety for Tradewind Aviation
SMS Content
Oversee and direct the activities of SMS investigations and corrective action plans as they pertain to all operations
Interact frequently with other departments leadership to ensure follow-through and completion of milestones related to ad-hoc or long-term safety related projects
Partner with Operational Leadership to ensure operations are conducted without unnecessary safety risk and/or security threat to people and/or property (including identifying trends and making recommendations to Leadership)
Ensure the management of safety risks to aircraft operations
ERP
Oversee and Manage ERP manual, training, and drills
Primary liaison with selected business partners
IEP
Oversee and Manage Internal Evaluation Program and maintain internal audit schedule
Ensure checklists are relevant to Tradewind Aviation operations
Ensure corrective action plans are developed and closed in a timely manner
Ensure Accountable Executive is aware of ongoing concerns as identified by the Internal Evaluation Program
3rd Party Audits of Tradewind Aviation
Support third-party audits, as requested
Other
Develop and manage departmental budget
Other duties as assigned
Safety Promotion/Advocacy
Oversee and manage SMS, ERP, and IEP related training and ensure proficiency of process owners and applicable team members
Act as a Safety Ambassador for the organization, both internally and externally to include attending applicable industry forums and presentations
Manage Team Members
Oversee and mentor team members
Take a significant role in the development of team members to support their engagement, growth, goal achievement and development of their succession plan and for the department
Requirements REQUIRED
Bachelor's Degree in aviation or a related field; OR equivalent experience and certification in aviation safety management
3-5 years' relevant aviation industry experience in safety, safety programs, or a related field
Strong interpersonal skills
Exceptional oral and written communication skills
Strong organizational and management skills
Ability to work under stress in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
Proficiency with MS Office 365 applications
Working knowledge of regulations and standards governing commercial aviation (ICAO, FAA, NTSB, IOSA) and those governing aviation safety, security, environmental, and employee health and safety
Working knowledge of 14 CFR Part 5 and Safety Management System (SMS) principles and applications
Experience working directly with the FAA
Ability to conduct or support data and/or statistical analyses to provide meaningful and actionable insight that improve Tradewind's safety performance
Experience and/or training in Human Factors, aviation safety investigations, and Root Cause Analysis
Ability to learn and understand new software in detail
Available for occasional overnight travel (10%)
Valid Passport or equivalent travel documents with the ability to travel in and out of the United States
PREFERRED
Graduate-level coursework in aviation, aviation safety, or a related field
Formal safety management training, accident investigation training, or prior analyst experience working within a 14 CFR Part 121 or Part 135 Safety Investigations or ASAP program
Experience in aviation operations (FAA certificated Pilot, A&P, Dispatcher and/or work experience in an operational role at a Part 121 or 135 air carrier or aircraft OEM)
Broad knowledge of airline maintenance, flight operations, dispatch, ground operations, and commercial aviation regulations desired
Broad knowledge of aviation reporting systems and safety principles
Experience running an Operations Department
