Summary: The Director of Nursing (DON) is responsible for the overall clinical leadership and management of the skilled home health agency, ensuring high standards of patient care and compliance with Medicare regulations. The DON will oversee the clinical staff, develop policies and procedures, and ensure that all services provided meet the highest standards of quality and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

Clinical Leadership:

  • Provide clinical oversight and direction to nursing and clinical staff.
  • Ensure all patient care is delivered in accordance with agency policies, procedures, and Medicare guidelines.
  • Conduct regular audits of patient records to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with regulatory requirements.

Staff Management:

  • Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate nursing and clinical staff.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative work environment.
  • Conduct regular staff meetings and ensure ongoing education and professional development opportunities for all clinical staff.

Quality Assurance:

  • Develop, implement, and monitor quality assurance and performance improvement programs.
  • Address and resolve any patient care issues or complaints in a timely manner.
  • Analyze and report on clinical performance metrics to identify areas for improvement.

Regulatory Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, including Medicare and other payer requirements.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of regulatory changes and implement necessary changes in policies and procedures.
  • Prepare for and participate in regulatory surveys and audits.

Patient Care Coordination:

  • Oversee patient care coordination to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
  • Collaborate with physicians, therapists, and other healthcare providers to develop and implement individualized care plans.
  • Ensure timely and accurate documentation of patient care activities.

Policy Development:

  • Develop and update clinical policies and procedures to reflect current best practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure staff adherence to all clinical policies and procedures.

Budget and Resource Management:

  • Assist in the development and management of the clinical budget.
  • Ensure the efficient use of resources and manage costs while maintaining high-quality care.

Community and Professional Relations:

  • Represent the agency in professional and community activities.
  • Build and maintain relationships with referral sources, healthcare providers, and other stakeholders.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) required; Master’s degree in Nursing or Healthcare Administration preferred.
  • Licensure: Current, active RN license in the state of Florida.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of nursing experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role in a home health or related healthcare setting.
  • Knowledge: Strong understanding of Medicare regulations and compliance requirements for home health agencies.
  • Skills:
  • Excellent leadership and management abilities.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in clinical documentation and electronic health records (EHR) systems.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Commitment to high standards of patient care and continuous quality improvement.

Work Environment: The DON must be able to manage multiple priorities and work in a fast-paced environment. The position may also require travel to patient homes.
