Position Summary:

The Material Handler is responsible for fulfilling customer orders by accurately finding, pulling, verifying, packaging, wrapping, and shipping materials.

Summary of Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Drives gasoline, liquefied gas, or electric powered industrial truck equipped with lifting devices such as forklift, boom, scoop, lift beam and swivel hook, fork grapple, clamps, elevating platform, or trailer hitch, to push, pull, lift stack, tier or move products, equipment, or materials, verifies and keeps records on incoming and outgoing shipments and prepares items for shipment by performing the following duties.
  • Reads work order, pick list or follows oral instructions to ascertain materials or containers to be moved.
  • Opens containers.
  • Loads and unloads material onto or from pallets, trays, racks and shelves by hand.
  • Moves levers and presses pedals to drive fork truck and control movement of lifting apparatus.
  • Positions forks, lifting platform, or other lifting device under, over or around loaded pallets, skids, boxes, products or materials, and transports load to designated area.
  • Unloads and stacks material by raising and lowering lifting device.
  • Inventories materials on work floor and supply workers with materials as needed.
  • Lubricates truck, recharges batteries, fills fuel tank or replaces liquefied gas tank.
  • Attaches identifying tags or labels to materials or marks information on cases, bales or other containers.
  • Removes samples of materials, labels with identifying information and takes samples to laboratory for analysis.
  • Operates industrial truck or electric hoist to assist in loading or moving materials and products.
  • Completes required documentation.
  • Compares identifying information and counts, weights, or measures items of incoming, internal and outgoing shipments to verify information against bills of lading, invoices, orders or other records.
  • Assembles wooden or cardboard contains or selects preassembled containers.
  • Inserts items into containers.
  • Stamps, stencils, or glues identifying information and shipping instructions onto crates or containers.
  • Load containers on scale to weigh and records weight.
  • Loads container on shrink wrap machine, starts machine, and insures proper wrapping of container.
  • Posts weights and shipping charges.
  • Unpacks and examines incoming shipments, rejects damaged items, records shortages and corresponds with shipper to rectify damages and shortages.
  • Routes items to departments.
  • Examines incoming and outgoing shipments to ensure shipments meet specifications.
  • Maintains inventory of shipping materials and supplies.
  • Operates lift truck or uses hand truck to move, convey or hoist shipments from shipping and receiving platform to storage or work area.
  • Participates in cycle counting, identification of errors and corrective actions.
  • Receives completed materials from manufacturing.
  • Performs Inventory transaction with radio frequency scanner or tablet.
  • Delivers non-inventory items to proper departments.
  • Verifies incoming shipment (carton count, skid count, product identity, etc.)
  • Moves cards or contains and sends faxes in accordance with Kanban procedures.
  • Moves and stores material in a safe manner.
  • Maintains good housekeeping in designated areas.
  • Maintains positive relationships with a wide variety of functional individuals.
  • Perform other duties as directed by supervisor.

Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Forklift experience or be able to be the requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. High school diploma or general education degree (GED) six to eighteen months experience and training; or equivalent combination of education and experience, basic math, follow written and verbal instructions. Successful candidate should be able to safely operate powered materials handling equipment. If not already certified to operate forklifts, would need to become certified within 30 days.

Physical Requirements: 

Walking, Sitting, and Standing.

Keyboarding and Reading. 

Grasping, Stooping, Twisting, Reaching, Climbing, Bending, and Stretching.

Lifting-up to 50lbs.
