Transpacific Technologies INC is Hiring an Environmental Health Safety Specialist Near Washington, DC

Description:

Our Occupational Safety and Health Team is involved with resolving critical safety and occupational health problems, often entailing serious hazards of unpredictable consequences to humans and property. The work requires developing new guidelines, approaches, and methods, often under difficult circumstances such as when confronted by conflicting viewpoints and resource constraints. The work affects the activities of safety and occupational health managers and specialists both within and outside the organization.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct evaluations/inspections of facilities occupied by USCP employees to determine compliance with published standards
  • Conduct innovative analysis and extends accepted safety principles in order to control and eliminate a variety of safety risks
  • Coordinate site visits with Facilities Manager, office of the Architect of the Capitol or appropriate USCP officials to define expected outcomes, explain processes and determine local logistics
  • Execute comprehensive evaluations with focus on assisting the USCP with gaining regulatory compliance
  • Prepare and deliver written and verbal review of findings and recommendations as directed
  • Conduct research to determine applicable regulatory requirements and feasible problem resolution
  • Assist the Safety Manager with:The day-to-day management of a medical readiness program consisting of sworn and civilian employees.

The day-to-day management of a department wide Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) program.The day-to-day management of a department wide Occupational Safety and Health on the job injury program that includes interfacing with the Department of Labor ECOMP software system.The day-to-day management of a department wide first aide and Automatic Electronic Defibrillator readiness program

  • Prepares for review by the Safety Manager, correspondence required to resolve potentially controversial safety problems
  • Assist with the implementation of management guidelines and written procedures for implementation of technical safety standards regarding the Federal Employees Safety and Occupational Health Act and safety requirements for a wide variety of operations or activities to include, but not limited to:Inspections of explosive handling/storage activities
  • Hazardous materials storage and management
  • Chemical/ biological safety
  • Safety, occupational health and environmental inspections
  • Accident countermeasures
  • Vehicle and driver safety
  • Personal protective equipment
  • Fire prevention
  • Occupational health/industrial hygiene programs
  • Hazard abatement programs
  • Regulated building materials management
  • Mishap investigation and reporting
  • Police Officer and related staff safety
  • ·Assist the Safety Manager in the development of comprehensive safety and environmental training programs for department inspectors responsible for daily inspections and performs training on subjects germane to facility hazards, regulations and compliance. Tasks include:
  • Perform periodic inspection of USCP training curriculum to ensure program coordinators establish safety observers and practice appropriate safety procedures to safeguard against employee injury
  • Inspect specialty equipment and procedures of response teams to ensure adherence to industry standards and development of curriculum for the specific topic

Minimum Requirements:

  • 2-4 years of experience in occupational safety and health related fields.
  • Skills in Data base Management Systems is highly desired but at a minimum, mastery of the following with 5 years of experience in Microsoft software.
  • Good oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Bachelors’ Degree or equivalent (i.e. two years of progressive EH&S experience) in environmental, health or safety.
  • Additional professional qualifications such as Associate Safety Professional, Certified Safety Professional, Certified Hazardous Materials Manager, etc

Pay: $80,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
