Key Responsibilities:
Team Leadership: Manage and mentor a group of engineers and designers, overseeing project-specific engineering activities.
Resource Allocation: Accountable for resource allocation, risk assessment, and project deadlines for technical deliverables.
Technical Oversight: Review and approve Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), drawing packages, BOMs, math data, and other technical documentation.
Project Management: Ensure the timely completion of large projects and custom-engineered solutions, coordinating with sales and project management teams.
Specification Review: Lead technical reviews of specifications for quotations and large contract risk assessments.
Custom Solutions Development: Oversee all activities related to large project custom-engineered solutions, including designing, modeling, prototyping, evaluation, and testing.
Design Standards: Develop design standards for transit systems and components, supporting research and development activities.
KPI Monitoring: Monitor and manage department Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to ensure team success.
Corrective Actions: Review Corrective Action Reports (CARs) and support root cause analysis to resolve issues.
On-Site Inspections: Travel nationally and internationally to perform on-site inspections and support commissioning activities.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field; equivalent education and experience considered.
Experience: 3-7 years of experience managing, leading, and coaching a technical team.
Licensing: Licensed Professional Mechanical Engineer (PE) in Nebraska with the ability to obtain reciprocity in other states.
Technical Skills: Experience with technical reviews, design risk assessments, and regulatory codes (UL, CSA, NEC, NFPA).
Software Proficiency: Proficient in 3D modeling software.
Communication: Strong written and oral communication skills.
Analytical Thinking: Critical thinking and process-oriented mindset for continuous improvement.
Travel: Willing and able to travel nationally and internationally (10%).
