Transportation is Hiring a Transportation, Auto Parts Clerk Near Savannah, GA

PRIMARY FUNCTION: The work of the Auto Parts Clerk includes a combination of general clerical tasks in maintaining the parts inventory and entry level mechanical work in an automotive maintenance shop. Employees in this class are responsible for ordering and distributing auto parts, maintaining parts inventory and performing basic repairs and maintenance on vehicles.

REPORTS TO: Transportation Maintenance Manager

SALARY SCHEDULE: G-7

WORK DAYS: 250

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Education Level: High School Diploma, or GED with some experience as an auto parts clerk

Preferred: High School Diploma with extensive experience as an auto parts clerk

Experience, Skill, and Certification: 

  • Strong customer service skills including both dealing with departmental staff and district school staff
  • Ability to maintain inventory records and files
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff, vendors and garage personnel
  • Strong computer skills; Word, Excel
  • Strong telephone conversational skills
  • Thorough knowledge of district schools and their locations
  • Thorough knowledge of county street network
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Thorough knowledge of automotive parts, catalogs, technical manuals and sources of supplies
  • Possess a Georgia Commercial Drivers License with S and P endorsements or ability to obtain within 60 days

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Orders, receives, stores, and issues spare and replacement parts used in an automotive maintenance shop.
  2. Prepares weekly parts inventory reports.
  3. Maintains records on parts inventory, verifies invoices for purchased parts, assigns purchase order numbers, and enters information into computerized inventory control system.
  4. Contacts vendors to obtain price quotes and to check on availability or substitution information on needed stock
  5. Pumps fuel, assists technicians in routine repairs and maintenance
  6. Maintains cleanliness and order in the parts room through tasks such as arranging supply boxes, sweeping, and trash disposal
  7. Tracks vehicle mileage.
  8. Tracks vehicle road calls.
  9. Schedules vehicle preventative maintenance service.
  10. Updates maintenance software entries.
  11. Prints and copies work orders and preventative maintenance orders fir technicians.
  12. Performs other duties as necessary for the effectiveness of the organization.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Incumbents will be considered “at will.” Appropriate pay will be determined based on the Grade as determined by Human Resources and allowable experience. The work calendar will be 250 days. Grade 7, NON-EXEMPT.
