Key Responsibilities
Preoperative Assessment: Conduct thorough preoperative assessments to ensure patients are prepared for surgery, addressing any concerns or medical history issues.
Surgical Assistance: Assist surgeons during surgical procedures, including passing instruments, maintaining a sterile field, and providing necessary equipment and supplies.
Patient Advocacy: Advocate for patient safety and comfort throughout the surgical experience, addressing any concerns or changes in the patient's condition promptly.
Sterile Technique: Maintain a sterile environment in the operating room, including proper sterilization of instruments and adherence to infection control protocols.
Patient Education: Provide patients and their families with preoperative and postoperative education to ensure understanding and compliance with care plans.
Documentation: Accurately document all patient care activities, assessments, and interventions in accordance with facility policies and regulatory standards.
Team Collaboration: Collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesia providers, surgical technologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure the smooth flow of surgical procedures.
Emergency Response: Be prepared to respond to emergency situations during surgery, including code situations, while maintaining composure and following established protocols.
Equipment Maintenance: Ensure proper functioning and availability of surgical equipment and instruments, reporting any malfunctions or deficiencies promptly.
Qualifications:
Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in state of practice
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
Certification in perioperative nursing (CNOR) preferred
Minimum of 5 years of experience in perioperative nursing or operating room setting
Strong understanding of surgical procedures and aseptic techniques
BLS and ACLS certification required
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities
Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
