QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and six months to one-year position-related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
  • Ability to read, write, and speak and understand in English, in order to interpret documents such as specifications, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with co-workers and supervisors.
PURPOSE:
To perform all general labor tasks to meet process flow and needs. To perform all custodial duties as required.
SUMMARY:
Pre-inspect and trim apples; inspect final product; perform custodial duties; ensure incoming fruit is free of foreign materials; spot and remove defects by using trim knife while minimizing yield loss; inspect final product to remove defects and foreign materials; erect boxes and insert liners and bags to meet process needs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Include the following. Other duties may be assigned. All of the following are to be performed while adhering to Tree Top operational policies, safety rules, procedures and good manufacturing practices.
It is the responsibility of every employee at Tree Top Inc. to report food safety and food quality problems or risks to personnel with the authority to initiate action against these said possible risks. The Organization chart indicated key personnel with the authority to take action.
Regular & Predictable Attendance is essential to this position.

  1. Visually Inspect Products for Defects and Foreign Materials:
  1. Identify and remove foreign objects and defects from the process
  2. Spread products on belt to facilitate greater visibility of defects, etc.
  3. Break clusters of dry, or compressed apples
  1. Remove Foreign Materials from Raw Product:
  1. Identify and remove foreign materials
  2. Notify the Supervisor or Lab Technician when foreign materials are found
  1. Communicate with Co-workers and Management Regarding Defects and Foreign Materials:
  1. Inform Process Operator or Packaging Operator and/or Quality Technician of foreign material
  2. Inform Process Operator or Packaging Operator of poor quality fruit
  3. Receive information from Process Operator, Packaging Operator or Management regarding what fruit to discard
  4. Receive information on which boxes and liners are to be used
  1. Spot and Remove Defects:
  1. Remove defects using Trim Knife, ensuring minimal apple loss
  2. Identify and remove poor quality or poorly processed fruit
  1. Maintain Adequate Production Supply so Line Flow is not Interrupted:
  1. Erect and line boxes to meet line flow
  2. Advise Operator or Supervisor when supplies are low
  3. Produce boxes/cases required per minute
  4. Stack boxes as needed to maintain production flow
  5. Build totes as needed
  1. Perform Custodial Assignments as Required:
  1. Perform custodial job requirements
  1. Industrial and Food Safety
  1. Follow proper Lock Out/Tag Out procedures/standards.
  2. Follow all Haz-Com and Chemical Safety procedures/standards.
  3. Follow all Good Manufacturing Practice procedures and standards.
  4. Follow all Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point procedure/standards.
  5. Wear required and appropriate Personal Protective Equipment at all times.
  6. Identify and address all unsafe conditions and unsafe acts - Report to Supervisor on shift
  7. Follow all other applicable safety rules and regulations.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentages.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision for paperwork, driving and reading specifications, distance vision to drive the forklift, color vision to check product color and identify packaging color differences, peripheral vision for driving the forklift and to watch for pedestrians, depth perception for driving the forklift and stacking pallets, and the ability to adjust focus for driving the forklift and identifying the product

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in proximity to moving mechanical parts and is regularly exposed to risk of electrical shock.
  • The employee frequently works in high, precarious places
  • The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and extreme heat.
  • The employee occasionally works in outside extreme weather conditions (heat, cold, wind, etc.)
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to vibration, toxic or caustic chemicals, and fumes or airborne particles.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
