Position Summary:

The Education Coordinator serves as the American Heart Association (AHA) Training Center Coordinator (TCC) for Tri-City Medical Center. Coordinates all BLS and ACLS classes to ensure enough classes are available for staff. Oversees the AHA Instructors to ensure that they provide instruction in accordance with approved AHA guidelines. Coordinates and collaborates with Educators the AHA component of the annual clinical skills labs. Evaluates effectiveness and implements strategies for the continual improvement of these programs. Supports the mission and values of the Medical Center.

Major Position Responsibilities:

The position characteristics reflect the most important duties, responsibilities and competencies considered necessary to perform the essential functions of the job in a fully competent manner.   • Maintains a safe, clean working environment, including unit-based safety and infection control requirements.
  • Performs all duties in a manner consistent with the AHA mission and guidelines as outlined in the Emergency Cardiac Care Program Administration Manual (PAM)
  • Training Center Coordinator over all American Heart Association courses
  • Maintains a current signed agreement with the Regional ECC (Emergency Cardiac Care) Office that states the TC will teach in accordance with the AHA science, curriculum, policies and procedures
  • Provide instructors with all ECC updates and training materials
  • Provides support to departmental projects as requested
  • Assist students in their clinical rotations at the hospital, and assign them to TCMC departments.
  • Develop working relationships with local high schools, community clinics, and other community organizations and events to interest students in nursing.
  • Provide exposure to nursing in the hospital to interested students by organizing and scheduling Nurse/Student “shadow” training.
  • Provide support to students and employees enrolled in educational programs. Facilitate participation in their clinical rotations in the hospital.
  • Coordinates clinical affiliation agreements
  • Coordinates student rotations at TCMC
  • Manages the High School Internship Program.
  • Manages projects/programs as assigned by Director including but not limited to Nursing Orientation, new graduate Registered Nurse program, transitional nurse training.

Qualifications:

  • At least 2 years of recent American Heart Association experience as an AHA instructor or AHA Training Center Coordinator (TCC) or willing to obtain instructor status within 6 months of hire.
  • Self-directed and accountable with excellent sense of values and ethical standards
  • Skilled in project development and the ability to lead others through such projects
  • Strong understanding and use of adult learner theory
  • Mastery in the following skills: planning, organizing, facilitating, coordinating, collaborating, execution and ability to communicate effectively both verbally and written.
  • Comfort in the development of presentations in different mediums, as well as giving presentations.
  • Possess a working knowledge of automated data systems, multiple computer software programs, and hospital information systems.
  • Knowledge of multiple clinical care processes, regulatory agency resources and requirements, quality improvement and continuum of care management
  • Minimum two years Clinical experience in a hospital required.
  • Minimum two years working with nursing students preferred.
  • Experience in conducting cultural competency training to students and clinical nurse instructors, or experience in educational training to students and/or nurses, required.
  • Knowledge and experience with community education service providers, required.
  • Ability to plan, organize and facilitate, coordinate, collaborate along with execution and ability to community effectively both verbally and written, required.
  • Possesses knowledge of automated data systems, personal computing skills, hospital information system database analysis and display, required.
  • Technology skills in Word, Excel, Net Learning, Cerner, and other hospital data systems, preferred.
  • Proven track record of mastery of the fundamental leadership skills of planning, organizing, facilitating, coordinating, collaborating, execution and ability to communicate effectively with all levels in the organization, required.
  • Demonstrates initiative, integrity and possesses sense of values and ethical standards.
  • Knowledge of clinical orientation support and quality improvement, required.
  • Previous experience with project management, required.

Education:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, required.
  • BSN, preferred.

Licenses:

  • Current California RN, required.

Certification:

  • Current BLS certification, required upon hire; American Heart Association Healthcare Provider.
  • Current ACLS certification, required upon hire; American Heart Association Healthcare Provider.
  • Instructors in both BLS and ACLS, preferred.
  • Instructor certifications such as PALS, preferred.

Each new hire candidate who is offered employment must pass a physical evaluation, urine drug screen and pre-employment background checks before starting work.

*Salary/Hourly Wage range based on experience.
