TITLE: Assistant Director

REPORTS TO: Executive Director

STATUS: Full Time/Exempt 

Salary: $75K-85K plus benefits stipend 

START DATE: July 2024

Tribe 12’s mission is to connect people in their 20s/30s to Jewish life and community in Philadelphia today so they will choose to stay connected tomorrow. 

Our programming includes social events, matchmaking services, an LGBTQIA community, affinity groups called Tribes, a Fellowship for entrepreneurs, learning cohorts and much more. Our vision is that every person should have a path to finding others like them, creating their own meaningful experience with Judaism, and building Jewish community in our city - or wherever they may go.

How you’ll contribute:

The Assistant Director is the Executive Director’s thought partner in developing and implementing the overall vision and strategy of the organization and helping to lead Tribe 12 through a period of vibrant growth. This role is critical to this period of organizational development. The Assistant Director is responsible for overseeing the organization’s operations and key aspects of our programming and for supporting the work of staff and lay leaders on small- to large-scale programs and initiatives. The Assistant Director will work closely with the Executive Director in the development of short and long-range programmatic, marketing, and operational goals for Tribe 12. 

Operations (35%)

  • Support the Executive Director with the creation of the annual budget and support staff in managing their budgets
  • Oversee the collection and analysis of our engagement and fundraising data in Salesforce and create reports on this data
  • Create or partner in creating new systems and procedures to improve efficiency/communication internally
  • Supervise the work of the Communications and Operations Manager and oversee the work on: Website, social media, newsletter, SEO
  • Oversee our decisions about benefits and insurance 

Supervision and Engagement of Staff and Lay leaders (35%)

  • Supervise, mentor and support the growth of 2-3 staff members
  • Own the overall staff experience (team bonding, staff meetings, office culture, etc.)
  • Serve as a liaison with specific lay committees, Federation agencies and community organizations in the Jewish community to coordinate and implement programs 
  • Manage the hiring and onboarding of new staff members
  • Coordination and scheduling of staff meetings

Programming (20%)

  • Oversee a small portfolio of Tribe 12 programs which might include one or two of our Tribes, a leadership development program, or another area of programming based on your interests and skills
  • Manage the planning process of 1-2 offsite weekend retreats a year, with significant support from other staff

Resource Development (10%)

  • Provide support to the Executive Director on fundraising campaigns and major events
  • Support grant writing for specific program initiatives
  • Manage the creation of annual reports, Board reports, and other stakeholder communications

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution required. Master’s degree or equivalent experience working in a Jewish nonprofit organization preferred
  • 5-8 years’ experience in Jewish communal work, or experiential education
  • Knowledge of Jewish community, culture, heritage, traditions and Jewish Communal Services
  • Experience supervising staff or lay leaders and/or facilitating leadership development for young adults
  • Comfort working both independently and collaboratively
  • Strong written and verbal skills, effective at communicating with a variety of stakeholders including constituents, board members, and community leaders
  • Accomplished organizational skills related to strategic planning, program oversight, and time management
  • Strong data analysis and budgeting skills
  • Ability to connect people’s passions and interests to Tribe 12’s mission
  • Committed to pluralism and comfortable using personal relationship with Judaism to act as a role model and mentor for emerging Jewish adults
  • A serious work ethic, sense of humor, and willingness to take risks and learn from unexpected situations
  • Proven success in:
  • Developing and/or implementing a strategic plan, including reporting and tracking data 
  • Managing multiple projects while maintaining quality
  • Willing to work flexible hours, including some evenings (on a weekly basis), weekends, and holidays
