Trillium Flow Technologies, founded on a legacy of premier products and service, provides mission-critical valves, pumps, and aftermarket services in oil and gas, power generation, water and wastewater, and general industry, with an unparalleled focus on your specific industry needs. Our innovative approach will deliver the support you need through design, installation, and operation, providing continuity and confidence in your flow control. You can count on us for knowledgeable customer support, innovative engineering design, a global footprint, and supply chain, aftermarket parts and service, and unmatched responsiveness to meet your demanding schedules.
Position Purpose
To test a variety of pumps and pump units to ensure all customer and other relevant standards are met or exceeded. Pump units range from small agricultural related pumps to large systems for fire pumps, off-shore oil rigs, nuclear and atomic energy systems
Responsibilities
  • Contribute to customer satisfaction by testing all Floway manufactured pumps and complete systems to customer specification and Floway sales commitments. Test rage from hydrotest, and flow for small Ag pumps to fire pumps, oil-rig pumps, municipal water systems, nuclear and atomic systems.
  • Provide for the accurate and timely testing of all Floway manufactured pumps to determine whether they meet customer standards as well as Floway and applicable industry standards and requirements. Upon receipt of a specific Test Package from Engineering, complete a detailed review of all related documents and reference specific industry standards for requirements (i.e. Hydraulic Institute, American Water Works, American National Standard, Factory Mutual, Floway's Engineering Specification Standards, etc.) and any other performance test requirements. The Test Lab Technician reviews Performance Test Requirements to determine type of testing, test lab setup, whether it will be witnessed by customer representative, job motor data for test pump data (i.e. gallons per minute, field head, discharge pressure, secondary points) and so on; review blueprints for wiring requirements; select voltage. Technician will review submittal curve and specifications, converting horse power (hp) from kilo watts (kw) and change gallons per minute (gpm) as required; convert from or to metric as required. If specifications do not conform with customer or industry standards, notify Engineering of changes required. Print test results, plot out performance curve, detail all data on appropriate form, sign off on successful tests, and submit results to Engineering for approval to ship. This includes providing tests results and input to Research and Development for the Turbine Data Handbook.
  • Ensure accurate set up by reviewing assembly schematics, Bills of Material, Sales Forms and all REV (revision) levels, and actual order document that specifies what fluid will be pumped; temperature and grade of fluid; depth of well; suction; discharge; differential pressure; what the pump has to pull and so on; convert speed pressure for in-house test versus the actual customer site.
  • Ensure that special needs and safety considerations are addressed prior to conducting tests, as well as ensuring compliance with all applicable safety policies and regulations and keeping the area clear of unauthorized personnel. This may include ensuring adequate voltage for each test by reviewing standards and blueprints; setup and operation of additional generators for 50 hz and higher; scheduling tests using large amounts of electrical power at off hours to avoid brown outs; advising PG&E when tests involve large motors; setup and operation of cooling towers as needed for certain tests; conducting explosion tests to determine what pressure bowl would blow or be distorted beyond repair; set mechanical seals by determining size/type.
  • Provide for effective test results by comparing customer data to the actual order write up to performance test requirement sheet to the test procedures. Determine which set of information is accurate, and provide feedback to appropriate parties (sales, engineering, manufacturing). Locate, isolate and help solve any problems that arise. Once all information matches, establish the points for testing and determining the setup required (i.e. venturi required to handle the test load); test to be used; identify flow points; identify manometer readings to measure flow; program IRD vibration pack.
  • Provide for accurate testing by monitoring the test throughout the run time (from 30 minutes to several days on occasion). This includes taking periodic measurements of flow and pressure by reading meters, listening to bearings. As needed, Technician will determine nonconformance of specifications and issue a work order to Production Planning. If performance test fails, determine modification of internal parts and release work order to Production Planning. Once the pump has been modified, the Technician will retest the pump based on applicable standard and sign off on the Job Operations Listing (JOL).
  • Ensure notification of Quality Control in writing when there is a mechanical failure so QC can generate a NCR form.
  • Ensure accurate programming of variable frequency drives, power meters, flow meters, vibration packs used in testing.
  • Ensure that all pressure gauges (ranging from 60 to 3000 psi) are calibrated timely. Conduct calibration using dead-weight testers, documenting test results, including gauge correction data on the Input Test Lab Sheet. Schedule power meter, venturis and electronic equipment for calibration by outside vendor. Log all tests and forward to Quality Control Department.
  • Provide support to Engineers and plant employees as requested by demonstrating general pump and hydraulic testing.
  • Provide for compliance with all ISO and quality requirements by following procedures as outlined in the Quality Procedures Manual.
Experience and Education
  • Two (2) years experience in related field/test lab environment or related experience.
  • Minimum Associates Degree in Industrial Technology or related experience.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
The work requires considerable and strenuous physical exertion such as frequent lifting, pushing or pulling of heavy objects over 50 pounds. The work involves moderate risks or discomforts requiring special safety precautions, e.g. working around moving parts, moving equipment (i.e. forklifts), rotating equipment or machines. Routine use of personal protective equipment is required and adherence to all safety precautions.
Position Type: Hourly / Non-Exempt
Compensation Range: $18.00 - $25.00
