Position Summary:

Laboratory Operations:

• Report to the Laboratory Operations Director and collaborate with the laboratory team to ensure efficient and accurate testing processes.
• Perform a variety of both routine and complex clinical laboratory tests in accordance with established standards and procedures.

Diagnostic Testing Expertise:

• Execute and analyze diagnostic tests with a high level of professional knowledge, particularly in situations where results are abnormal or atypical.
• Demonstrate a strong background in chemistry to contribute expertise to the testing processes.

Adaptability and Stress Management:

• Operate successfully and independently in a dynamic and rapidly changing laboratory environment.
• Maintain composure in high-stress situations, exercising initiative and sound judgment.

Laboratory Equipment Management:

• Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, performing scheduled maintenance following established laboratory guidelines.
• Recognize, troubleshoot, and document equipment problems, coordinating service when necessary.

Results Production and Evaluation:

• Produce accurate and timely laboratory test results.
• Evaluate laboratory test results considering patient age and/or diagnosis.

Quality Control and Assurance:

• Utilize laboratory equipment and supplies/consumables while ensuring adherence to quality control standards.
• Evaluate quality control results within established parameters and maintain accurate records of quality control values.
• Correct detected problems and document corrective actions taken.

Communication and Collaboration:

• Maintain effective communication skills within the laboratory team and collaborate with other healthcare professionals in the organization.

Training and Education:

• Assist in training laboratory employees, students, and other healthcare professionals in laboratory testing methodology.
• Share expertise in chemistry-related testing procedures.

Technology Proficiency:

• Demonstrate proficiency in using and understanding Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and follow Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) Manuals.

Quality Assurance Practices:

• Maintain quality assurance practices in compliance with Trillium's policies and adhere to Federal, State, and Local laws and regulations, including accreditation and licensure requirements.

This role requires a Medical Laboratory Scientist with a strong background in chemistry, capable of contributing specialized knowledge to diagnostic testing procedures while ensuring the highest standards of quality and compliance.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

• Work requires formal educational background in biology, chemistry, hematology, immunohematology, and microbiology normally acquired through completion of a two- or four-year post-secondary school program in clinical laboratory technology/medical technology and/or equivalent education and training in microbiology, chemistry, hematology, immunohematology, or related field. BS degree in Medical Technology/Clinical Laboratory Science, preferred. Molecular experience is highly desirable, but not required.
• Certification through the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or American Medical Technologists (AMT) is preferred for MT or MLS.

Work Experience:

• This role is intended for individuals with a minimum of one year of clinical laboratory experience or an equivalent work experience related to the discipline.
