Adjunct Faculty – Communication/Philosophy

Trinity Washington University, a comprehensive institution in the nation’s capital, seeks an adjunct faculty member to teach one or two sections of Communication 150/Philosophy 150, Critical Reasoning and Oral Argumentation for Fall 2024. This is a required course in the first-year curriculum, designed to help students develop critical reasoning and oral presentation skills. The course is structured around several standardized assignments, including speeches of fact and of value.

This is a 3-credit course with the following meeting times (this is a face-to-face course for Fall 2024).

COM/PHIL 150: Critical Reading and Oral Argumentation (3 CR), Tue/Thurs 9:00 AM-10:30 AM

COM/PHIL 150: Critical Reading and Oral Argumentation (3 CR), Tue/Thurs 1:30PM-2:45 PM

Compensation - $965/credit

Successful candidate should have earned at least a Master’s degree, from an accredited institution, in Communication, Rhetoric, Philosophy, or another related field, and should be able to demonstrate strong teaching skills. A background in teaching effective communication techniques, as well as deductive and inductive forms of reasoning, is highly desirable.

Official transcripts for all degrees earned, sample course syllabi, course evaluations and/or other evidence of teaching effectiveness, and contact information for three professional references will be needed if the candidate is invited to campus for an interview. Knowledge of best teaching practices is required. Finalists will be invited to campus for an interview and teaching demonstration. Preference given to candidates who demonstrate excellence with engaged and active learning practices.
