Position Purpose

Under limited supervision, maintains and keeps records for the area of anesthesia supplies and equipment.

What you will Do

• Maintains and organizes inventory of all supplies, drugs, medical gases and equipment in anesthesia storage areas. Troubleshoots anesthesia equipment and corrects. If necessary, takes equipment for repair.
• Maintains stock of drugs, supplies and equipment in anesthesia workroom, storage carts and machines in operating rooms as well as other predetermined areas.
• Performs assigned cleaning functions as directed, i.e., anesthesia machines, equipment, supplies, storage carts and storage areas and turnover of operating rooms. Checks daily and prepares anesthesia gas machines for use including minor maintenance.
• Maintains records of cleaning, maintenance and repairs and of requisition and purchases.
• Transports patients to and from ancillary departments when directed.
• Answers intercom and/or signal lights to determine need as directed by circulating nurse and/or anesthetist/anesthesiologist and takes appropriate action as needed.
• Participates in airway management of applying cricoid pressure and assists in setting up the glidescope/fiberoptic scope/LMA and other devices. Assists with patient positioning when requested for spinal/epidural placement.
• Participates in all annual inventory counts, i.e., Anesthesia and Surgery. Organizes inventory of supplies, medical gases and equipment in Anesthesia/Surgery storage areas.
• Maintains an up-to-date knowledge base on all new anesthetic equipment used in the Operating Room. Remains current with manufacturer instructions on care and maintenance of anesthesia equipment and demonstrates consistent abilities with those requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Previous acute care related experience preferred.
• Must be certified in Basic Cardiac Life Support unless a doctor’s release is provided in which case yearly proficiency must be demonstrated through written or oral testing.
• Basic math and data entry skills required.
• Is able to communicate effectively with all members of the health care team.
• Is able to perform a variety of duties characterized by frequent change.
