Assistant Vice President for Global Health Operations - Georgetown University Medical Center

Job Overview

Georgetown University seeks an Assistant Vice President for Global Health Operations (AVP).

Reporting to the Executive Vice President and Executive Dean for Health Sciences (EVP), with a dotted line reporting relationship to the Vice President and Chief Operating Office (COO), the AVP is a critical senior leadership role combining strategic planning, project/program management, and business process implementation and optimization, across the university's complex and evolving global health enterprise.

They will support the board of Georgetown Global Health (GGH) and collaborate with the Director for the Georgetown University Global Health Institute in guiding global health operations, identifying operational challenges and solutions, ensuring compliance with GU and sponsor policies and procedures, and acting as a strategic advisor.

They will manage strategic projects in support of board objectives, drive organizational business planning (both strategic and tactical), and collaborate with the GGH Board, Director of the Center for Global Health Practice and Impact (CGHPI), other global health centers, and other members of the executive team to define and drive the operational aspects of the university's strategy for global health.

The AVP will help identify issues for escalation, manage decision processes to ensure relevant stakeholders are consulted, and final decision makers have necessary information to make informed decisions.

As well, they will drive and facilitate solutions to challenges and ensure the correct individuals across the university and in operating countries are engaged so that key operational needs are appropriately prioritized and completed. The ideal candidate has a deep interest in operational efficiency, global health, and innovative ways to best support GU's global health research community.

Duties include but are not limited to:

Business process management and improvement in partnership with country teams and university leadership

Operational and compliance oversight of large complex international operation

Strategic projects and planning for global health expansion

GGH board management

Risk identification, management, and escalation to university leadership

Work Interactions and Work Mode Designation

The AVP for Global Health Operations will lead the development and implementation of operational plans to support and manage a matrixed, collaborative university-wide team that achieves high levels of communication, productivity, effectiveness and efficiency in order to support GU's overall global health research mission.

They will work closely with the EVP and with other senior administrators, including those in the Global Health Institute, Office of the President, Office of the Chief Operating Officer, the Office of General Counsel, the Office of International Safety and Security, and with deans, vice deans, global health center directors, divisional business officers, faculty and staff across the university to implement the priorities of the global health programs in the GUMC portfolio.

This position has been designated as Hybrid. Please note that work mode designations are regularly reviewed in order to meet the evolving needs of the University. Requirements and Qualifications

Master's degree - preference for Business or elated field

A minimum of 10 years' professional work experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership position in a college or university environment.

Experience working with standing up international operations

Excellent verbal, written, analytical, organizational and motivational skills

Experience in project management, communications, and change management

Experience in development of executive-level briefing, presentations, and analysis

Ability to handle multiple responsibilities and tasks concurrently in a fluid environment

Ability to effectively build organization and staff capacity, developing a top-notch workforce and the processes that ensure the organization runs smoothly

Enjoyment in solving challenges and ability to act and react as necessary, even if limited information is available; and ability to be calm and focused during times of challenge, crisis, and complexity

Thorough understanding of university operations with broad experience with the full range of business functions and systems, including HR strategy, organization development and planning, budgeting, business analysis, finance, information systems, and legal

Preferred Qualifications

Terminal degree (EdD, PhD, JD)

Strong work ethic with a "can do" positive attitude

Strong "EQ" and intuition

Highly proactive approach

Solid organizational skills with a laser-focused eye for detail

Impeccable written and oral communication skills

Poised demeanor when dealing with all stakeholders, including executives, academic leaders, and partners

Drawn to both strategize and execute; moreover, ability to do so quickly and in a fast-paced, start-up environment
