Job Summary And QualificationsThe Infection Prevention Coordinator promotes and delivers high quality, patient-centered care by assisting with the administration of Infection Prevention policies, procedures and programs. As a part of the Infection Prevention team, the Infection Prevention Coordinator identifies, investigates, reports, and monitors the incidence of hospital acquired infections among patients and personnel, and implements policies and procedures to prevent cross-contamination. The Infection Prevention Coordinator is also responsible for assisting with inservice programs and orientation related to infection prevention, as well as collaboration with the Employee Health Program to reduce exposures and mitigate risk.
Participates in infection prevention surveys and surveillance/rounding, based on the organization's risk assessment plan, in accordance with state, federal, and other reporting requirements. Evaluates environment, practices, products, devices, and equipment as related to infection prevention.
Applies epidemiologic principles and statistical methods to identfy target populations, determine risk factors, design prevention and control strategies, analyze trends and evaluate processes related to infection prevention.
Collects and analyzes data related to infection prevention and control. Collaborates with Occupational Health to assess environment for injury/illness risks.
Implements epidemiologic investigation during the occurrence of infections and infection clusters.
Monitors and evaluates the efficacy of infection prevention activities, including methods of asepsis, sterilization, and disinfection.
Implements and conducts special studies when appropriate or requested by the Infection Prevention Committee Chairperson.
Assists in coordinating prevention and containment efforts for potential infections, pandemics, and bioterrorist events. Serves as a resource to hospital personnel and medical staff on patient placement, transmission-based precautions, and other interventions, to control or reduce infections or infectious risks.
Provides regular written and/or verbal infection prevention and outcome reports to relevant committees, departments, personnel, and external agencies.
Communicates efficiently and reports occurences of communicable diseases to federal, state, and local public health authorities, in accordance with laws and regulations.
Maintains accurate records of healthcare associated infections among patients, in compliance with regulatory and accrediting agencies.
Reviews and updates policies and protocols as needed to maintain compliance with regulations, standards and evidence-based guidelines.
Construction oversite: retains knowledge and actively participates in collaboration with the construction team with the planning, evaluation, implementation of the infection prevention risk assessment with follow up rounds to ensure full compliance.
  • Associate Degree in Nursing or Nursing Diploma
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing or health-related field
  • 1 years experience in a healthcare setting
  • 1 years experience in Infection Control
  • 1 years experience in a leadership role
