Saw Operator Job Description

Tristar Transload PNW, Incorporated is looking for a Saw Operator to join our Warehouse/Yard team. In this role, you will be operating and programming a Pacific Trail Manufacturing Accu-Cut Crosscut Unit Saw and moving material around with a forklift. While you operate the Accu-Cut Crosscut Unit Saw, it is important to look for any defects or issues. Applicants for this position should have one to three years of previous industrial saw operational experience, however, comprehensive training will be provided with respect to running the Pacific Trail manufacturing Accu-Cut Crosscut Unit Saw. Lastly, since you will pallet and transport finished pieces, forklift experience is required.

Objectives of this role

  • Set up, adjust, and operate Pacific trail manufacturing custom Accu-Cut saw
  • Work efficiently and maintain precision sawing tolerances
  • Manage, schedule, and plan daily required labor to achieve specified daily goals
  • Determine the best cost-effective ways to achieve stated board cut volume goals
  • Meet the performance standards for saw operation production and quality assurance

Responsibilities

  • Sawing Material:

· Use computer-based saw to cut wood boards

· Inspect material for damage and proper thickness

· Arrange sawing sequences for optimum material usage

· Arrange and cut wood boards for bundling

  • Saw Maintenance:

· Determine and install proper blade size based on material type and size

· Check and replenish fluid for lubrication system

· Check and remove chips from collection system if necessary

· Know Your Saw: Recognize operating irregularities and machine malfunctions

· Notify team-leader and/or makes necessary adjustments or repairs

  • Instruments/Equipment:

· Use verniers, calipers, squares, rulers, and other measuring devices to maintain specifications and tolerances

· Load saw with material by lifting or using forklift

  • Technology:

· Utilize computer software to understand and follow through with customer work orders

· Operate the saw’s internal computer system

Additional Saw Operator Duties and Responsibilities

· Inspect and measure workpieces to mark for cuts and to verify the accuracy of cuts, using rulers, squares, or caliper rules.

· Set up, operate, or tend saw to cut or trim wood to specified dimensions.

· Monitor sawing machines, adjusting speed and tension and clearing jams to ensure proper operation.

· Sharpen blades, or replace defective or worn blades or bands, using hand tools.

· Guide workpieces against saws, saw over workpieces by hand, or operate automatic feeding devices to guide cuts.

· Inspect stock for imperfections or to estimate grades or qualities of stock or workpieces.

· Dispose of waste material after completing work assignments.

· Count, sort, or stack finished workpieces.

· Measure and mark stock for cuts.

· Trim lumber to straighten rough edges or remove defects, using circular saws.

· Operate saw conveyor systems to move stock through processes or to cut stock to specified

· Maintain records of production

Required Skills and Qualifications

· Basic computer skills are required

· Must be 18 years of age

· Regular and Reliable job attendance required

· High school diploma or equivalent

· Adapt to training and then operate a variety of equipment

· Experience working with heavy machinery and industrial products

· Forklift experience and certification (ex: OSHA in the US)

· Ability to perform basic math functions

· Ability to read and use measuring equipment such as tape measures, micrometers, and Vernier calipers

· Ability to lift and/or move up to 70 pounds

· Ability to work with hands and be on your feet for extended periods of time

· Proven track record of being a team player

Preferred skills and qualifications

  • 1-year lumberyard and sawmill experience
  • Previous experience working in an open element industrial product yard
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to follow instructions

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $20.00 - $26.00 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 40 per week
