Trout Unlimited is Hiring a Remote Corporate Relations Officer

Description

 Join a successful and rapidly growing team of development professionals to develop and manage a portfolio of corporate and corporate foundation prospects and donors. Responsibilities include coordinating and executing the identification, strategic cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of donors interested in Trout Unlimited’s work to protect, care for and restore rivers so our children can experience the joy of natural and wild trout and salmon. 

The successful candidate will have a comprehensive understanding of how to support companies in advancing their ESG goals through philanthropic investment. They will have a broad network of contacts in the corporate philanthropy sector and an understanding of how to effectively measure and message Trout Unlimited’s conservation impact. This position will report to the Director of Institutional Giving. 

Scope of Role and Duties

  • Plan and execute cultivation, solicitation and stewardship activities in close coordination with program staff to engage corporate donors and prospects and secure increased investment in Trout Unlimited’s work.
  • Proactively identify, engage and build long-term relationships with existing donors and new prospects. Ensure effective stewardship resulting in long-term, collaborative partnerships with corporate donors.
  • Manage the grant application process from inquiry through proposal to reporting, strictly adhering to all deadlines. 
  • Create written and presented materials that are consistent with Trout Unlimited’s brand and message, as well as high quality, compelling and polished.
  • Staff and support senior leadership in their interactions with corporate prospects and donors, including preparing research, talking points, meeting materials and relevant communications.
  • Work closely with the Director of Institutional Giving to develop portfolio and revenue goals, building the program from between $2.5-$4 million in annual revenue currently to $6-$8 million over the next several years.
  • Over time, build a thorough understanding of Trout Unlimited’s work, to facilitate productive relationships both internally and externally, and to increase revenue generation and impact.
  • Work collaboratively with the Sr. Director of Corporate Partnerships and Sponsorships on the Marketing and Communications Team to ensure we are maximizing the value of our corporate relationships and thinking holistically about the opportunities with key partners, especially from the outdoor industry.
  • Ensure appropriate documentation of relationship history, agreements and deliverables in our database (NetForum).
  • Work collaboratively with program and finance partners to ensure effective grants management and timely spending consistent with proposal budgets.
  • Other duties, as assigned.

Requirements

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 6 – 10 years of fundraising or equivalent ESG/corporate philanthropy experience.
  • Preferred: Experience with conservation and/or science and policy issues and a passion for angling.

Skills/Abilities:

  • Demonstrated understanding of and passion for Trout Unlimited’s work.
  • Excellent written and oral communication and the ability to compellingly articulate complex scientific and policy information to diverse constituencies.
  • Proven ability to grow a portfolio from a core set of existing donors and prospects.
  • Ability to draft, edit and produce exceptional materials that align with the needs/style of corporate partners.
  • Strategic skill to reconcile short-term budget needs with long-term strategy, relationship development and thinking. Support and enhance organizational program development capacity, by helping programs to articulate compelling strategies, milestones and outcomes.
  • Commitment to being a collaborative partner with a wide variety of donor prospects, internal stakeholders and senior leadership.
  • Highly organized, self-motivated, adaptable and able to prioritize tasks.
  • Ability to innovate and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Ability to think strategically as well as operationally.
  • Capacity to function effectively in a largely remote team environment, with peers and colleagues spread across the country.
  • Willingness to travel domestically when required and strategic.
  • Proficiency in Adobe, Word, Excel, Power Point and Teams; ability to work within a CRM database and comply with data privacy, record keeping and relationship management best practices.
