**Host Site Agency Mission**
The Greenhouse Project is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to providing fresh produce to the local community in need and educating youth about gardening and horticulture. We operate a greenhouse, hoop houses, and raised beds behind Carson High School, collaborating with students in agriculture classes, special needs students, and community groups.
**Member Position Summary**
Members will contribute to growing and producing produce for local food banks while supporting sustainable agriculture and nutrition education through service and working alongside students and volunteers.
**Member Schedule & Service Location**

• Monday - Friday 8:30 am - 5 pm
• Some weekends and evenings for special programs and events
• Carson City, NV
• Timeline: January 2022 - August 2022

**Primary Responsibilities**

• Learn and implement innovative high desert farming techniques
• Maintain diverse crops through pruning, harvesting, and cultivation
• Prepare the site for plantings and crop production
• Assist and train volunteers in production
• Develop strategies for efficient time management and production

**Secondary Responsibilities**

• Lead tours and engage with student groups and visitors
• Engage with youth field trips in hands-on activities
• Recruit, manage, and train volunteers
• Collect and report program statistics
• Participate in daily AmeriCorps team meetings and collaborative events

**Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities**

• Dedication to AmeriCorps service agreement
• Passion for Environmental Education, Sustainable Agriculture & Healthy Lifestyles
• Ability to work in teams and with the public
• Ability to follow safety procedures and lift objects up to 50 pounds
• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
• Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions
• Possess a valid Driver's License

**Qualifications**

• Bachelor's degree in education, science, or related field preferred
• Strong communication, organizational, and writing skills
• Initiative, spirit of service, and experience working with students and volunteers
• Preferred: Understanding of education standards and experience in curriculum development
• Preferred: Experience in teaching formal or informal settings
• Preferred: Reading, writing, speaking competency in Spanish

**Term of Service & Time Requirements**

• Half-time member position from January 24th, 2022, to August 12th, 2022
• Required completion of 920 service hours

**Evaluation and Reporting**

• Mid-term and end-of-term evaluations
• Submission of biweekly Member Service Logs for approval
• Monthly reporting of performance measures

**Member Benefits**
