Position:Certitfied Behavior Specialist, 10-month, full time Reports To: Director of the Exceptional Children Program Monthly Salary: Teacher State Salary Schedule (plus local supplement) Qualifications/Requirements: Must hold current teacher licensure in Exceptional Children and have a minimum of five years of successful teaching; experience with conducting Functional Behavior Assessments, Positive Behavior Intervention & Support, & designing & implementing Behavior Intervention Plans for students with disabilities; competency with data collection & analysis; knowledgeable of a variety of instructional & behavioral strategies for learning; collaboration and problem solving with IEP teams; knowledge of alternatives to suspension; provide trainings to staff; must complete Crisis Prevention & Intervention training & maintain credentials Goal: To collaborate, coach, & problem solve with teachers, assistants, parents, administrators, agencies, & IEP teams regarding students with disabilities who have challenging behavioral needs so that they can make progress in the educational environment & curriculum Duties
Provides consultation & coaching to staff regarding evidence-based interventions for use with students with behavioral challenges
Evaluates current behavior interventions & strategies used with students to determine effectiveness
Participates in IEP meetings for exceptional children receiving PRC 029 behavior support services
Develops & provides training regarding Functional Behavior Assessment, data collection/analysis, Behavior Intervention Plans, evidence-based behavior interventions, & other areas as assigned
Assists IEP teams with completion of Functional Behavior Assessments, data collection/analysis, & problem solving
Establishes positive relationships with parents, staff, and agencies in planning for and addressing students' needs
Collaborates and meets regularly with the Behavior Support Team regarding PRC 029 services provided to students with disabilities in the district
Maintains records of contacts with teachers and administrators to support the needs of identified PRC 029 students with disabilities
Demonstrates knowledge of Exceptional Children Program policies, special education laws, regulations, & practices
Completes PRC 029 entrance, monthly, mid-year, & exit reports in a timely manner to the NCDPI Office of Exceptional Children using data management systems; completes materials & reports for PRC 029 onsite reviews; completes other reports as assigned by the EC Director
Attends local, regional, and state-level conferences and trainings regarding Behavior Support PRC 029 services
Attends other departmental meetings as scheduled by the EC Director
Compiles records & develops reports regarding behavior support service
Must be self-motivated, self-directed, collaborative, professional, & flexible
Establishes & maintains positive working relationships with parents, students, staff, & administrators
Must be able to perform heavy work exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of forces frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to lift objects
Other duties as assigned
