Job DescriptionGeneral Responsibilities Under the direction of the Postsecondary Readiness Manager, we are seeking a dedicated and dynamic individual to serve as a College and Career Readiness Advisor. This role involves co-advising with representatives from higher education and other rural advisory partners, students, schools, and families. This new structure provides resources to empower students in these rural and remote communities to succeed in their post-secondary education and career pursuits. Under the direction of the Youth Workforce Program Manager, the Youth Workforce Specialist develops and provides work-based learning services and career related learning experiences to participants in the Career Connected Learning Network and Youth Workforce program. Salary: The positions are on separate salary levels. The full annual salary range reflects the combined assignment, $59,351.82 - $73,228.91. Our offers are made at the entry level of the range. *Effective September 1, 2024, the new salary range will be $61,568.25 - $74,898.39. Assignment: The ideal candidate will possess empathy, cultural sensitivity, and a passion for helping students achieve their full potential despite geographical barriers. This position is grant funded, for three anticipated years. Further employment beyond the grant period is contingent on overall project performance. A majority of the work day will be spent at the assigned high school. This is a combined position, working with students at Kalama School District. This work is year-round (260 days). The person in this role will serve as both a College & Career Readiness Advisor (4.8 hours per day, 210 days per year) and a Youth Workforce Specialist (3.2 hours per day, 210 days; 8 hours per day, 50 days). A work calendar will be provided. Essential Functions/Other Functions College & Career Readiness Advisor Essential Functions: Assist students in completing their High School and Beyond Plan to document exploration of college, vocational, and training options that align with their interests, abilities, and goals. Support students in the selection of high school course sequences, including Career and Technical courses, while clarifying and navigating the dual credit system. Provide personalized support through direct classroom instruction, and before-school and after-school programming. Develop and implement career readiness programs tailored to students in rural and remote settings. Collaborate with local businesses, organizations, and community leaders to create career exploration activities such as guest speakers, developing career fairs, assisting with resume writing/cover letters/ interviewing skills, and providing opportunities for job shadows and internships. Conduct family-focused workshops and seminars on college affordability, financial aid, and scholarship opportunities. Provide learning sessions on Labor Market data and projected trends. Directly support students in the completion of the FAFSA/WASFA. Collaborate with higher education liaisons, other specialists and the ESD 112 Career Readiness team. Participate in professional learning groups locally and throughout the state. Compile and maintain a database of scholarships, grants, and financial aid opportunities accessible to rural students. Utilize technology to bridge gaps in access to educational resources and information. Collect and analyze student postsecondary readiness data at the school level. Other Functions: Advocate for student needs and assist in navigating challenges unique to rural and remote environments. Other duties as assigned. Youth Workforce Specialist Essential Functions: Provide employment support services for students enrolled in youth workforce programs. Teach and support implementation of Work Readiness and related classes. Work with school districts to recruit students, focusing outreach on targeted populations. Complete business outreach to develop employment placements and career related learning experiences for youth. Provide supervision and guided support to students before, during and after work based learning experience. Provide required documentation to schools to enable participants to receive school credit when possible. Prepare required documentation for hiring and payroll for student paid work-based learning experience. Partner with the Career Connect Network to support career explore, prep and launch opportunities for middle and high school students. Complete data entry and service documentation to program standards. Establish and maintain effective communication with program partners, staff, and administration to ensure programs are implemented and youth have access to the programs. Other Functions: Participate in staff and team meetings, in-service programs, workshops and seminars. Other duties as assigned. Minimum/Preferred Qualifications & Skills Minimum Qualifications: Associate's degree or higher in education, counseling, social work, or a related field. Two years experience working in K12 schools or other educational settings, preferably in rural or remote communities. Demonstrated familiarity with a variety of postsecondary options, financial aid literacy, and career development strategies. Experience in facilitating workshops and meetings and adapting communication style to engage diverse groups of students, parents, and stakeholders. Experience with at-risk youth programs and/or youth employment programs. Experience managing or inputting information into a database. Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in education, counseling or related field. Previous experience in project management, preferably in an educational setting. Bilingual experience with at-risk youth programs. Experience using computer word processing and database software. Working Conditions/Employment Requirements Working Conditions: Frequent travel across the ESD112 region and the state. Variety of settings including outdoors, office, and classroom environment. Flexible hours as necessary, including occasional evening work hours. Regular attendance during scheduled work hours. This is a hybrid position with 80% of time spent in assigned high schools. Employment Requirements: Successful completion of a criminal history background check through the Washington State Patrol.
