Job Title Director of Education General Description YWCA Rhode Island strives to provide a safe, nurturing environment in which children and adults can grow and learn. The Director of Education is responsible for the planning, implementation, evaluation and administration of the Early Childhood Learning Center (ECLC), school age, and adult programs (functioning as the Education Coordinator). The Director supports and mentors the members of the teaching team in planning and monitoring the classroom curriculum to improve social, emotional, intellectual and physical developmental outcomes. Essential Duties
  • Provide leadership for compliance with RI Department of Education Comprehensive Early Childhood Education educational program standards, Department of Human Services Regulations for Licensure, and BrightStars.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to quality care and learning for children by leading the ECLC's participation in BrightStars
  • Oversee the implementation of the curriculum framework, child assessment plan, family engagement plan, staff and family handbook, system of supportive supervision and other policies and documents as needed
  • Lead the implementation of the program-level curriculum framework to ensure all children receive a consistent, high-quality educational experience
  • Implement the policies and practices outlined in the family engagement plan to support and engage families as partners in their child's education and develop meaningful, reciprocal and ongoing relationships with families
  • Implement the comprehensive services plan to identify and support family's needs
  • Lead the implementation of the program level policies and practices outlined in the child assessment plan to ensure all teachers are using formative assessment to plan curriculum
  • Supervise education staff including nurse, manager, coordinators, counselors, teachers, teacher assistants, and volunteers and monitor staff performance
  • Implement a robust system of staff support, utilizing strategies to ensure staff are prepared with the knowledge and skills needed to meet the requirement of their role as well as support staff to set and achieve goals for professional development
  • Ensure that family engagement, curriculum planning informed by formative assessment, staff support, and on-going quality improvement reflect the program's educational philosophy
  • Oversee youth enrichment programming creation, implementation, and staff
  • Support adult education programs and staff
  • Support grant writing and fundraising relating to education programming
  • Use internal and external data sources to create a comprehensive program self-assessment that informs a continuous cycle of quality improvement
  • Provide administrative leadership to the Education programs (required documentation, staff training, etc.)
  • Attend required meetings, networking and other professional development opportunities
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned Qualifications and Education Requirements Option 1: Hold a current Rhode Island Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Early Childhood Education Certificate (Grades Pre-K to 2). Option 2: Hold a current Rhode Island Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Special Education Certificate (Grades Pre-K to 2) which includes Early Childhood Education Certification. Option 3: Hold a Bachelor's or Master's Degree in related field such as Child Development, Elementary Education or Special Education with 24 credits in Early Childhood Education from an accredited or approved institution of higher education.
  • A minimum of 2 years of early childhood education classroom teaching experience.
  • A 3-credit course or a minimum of 40 documented hours of professional development over the course of 2 years in mentoring, supervision and leadership OR an individual professional development plan not to exceed 2 years from the date of employment for achieving this requirement.
  • A Rhode Island Early Learning Development Standard certificate relevant to this position OR an individual professional development plan not to exceed 2 years from the date of employment for achieving this requirement. Position Hours and Location Position is located in Woonsocket, RI.
