The Wolf School, an innovative independent lower and middle school for children with multiple learning challenges, is currently recruiting a part time Technology Integration Specialist. The Wolf School inspires Complex Learners to discover confidence, compassion, and a love of learning to reach their full potential. The Wolf School, a small independent day school in East Providence, Rhode Island, was founded in 1999 to provide a unique educational environment for children with multiple learning differences. The goal was to create a school that would provide children with the opportunity to reach their full academic and social potential. The founding members of the Board, including educators, clinical specialists and a family, created a model that emphasizes the development of core grade level skills taught through a therapeutically guided curriculum. As a result, our students make significant gains academically and socially. Today, the Wolf School educates up to 75 students in grades K-8 from Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Position Overview: The role of Speech and Language Therapist is a ten month, part time position that facilitates the design and implementation of clinical interventions and strategies to optimize students' language processing and production. The Speech and Language Pathologist addresses listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills within the educational setting. They collaborate with other professions to facilitate students' academic, communication and social skills through teaching/implementing learning strategies, developing and/or modifying academic curriculum, combining communication goals with academic and social goals, etc. Additionally, in conjunction with the Occupational Therapist, they plan and deliver the social emotional curriculum which fosters the development of self-awareness, self-control, and interpersonal skills in order to establish a foundation for academic and life success. Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Lead the process of development, implementation and coordination of speech and language therapy goals within the curriculum
  • Screen, assess and provide therapeutic intervention
  • Participate in joint planning to ensure speech and language goals are embedded in the curriculum
  • Work in collaboration with an interdisciplinary team
  • Attend team and planning meetings
  • Review student progress and outcomes and modify intervention programs
  • Communicate with families on a regular basis to update them on goals, progress, and strategies to reinforce at home
  • Provide continual parent and staff education
  • Contribute to the Wolf School parent blog at a minimum of once per school year
  • Take part in delivering continuing education to the greater community
  • Develop IEPs and Learning Plans, and document progress throughout the year
  • Attend parent teacher conferences three times a year
  • Document social emotional curriculum throughout the year
  • Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current in the speech and language field
  • Support graduate students and CFY candidates
  • Maintain confidentiality as per mandated data privacy laws
  • Attend weekly staff meetings and school wide events
  • Other duties as assigned Additional Skills/Abilities:
  • Professional judgment and clinical knowledge to develop individualized and classroom programming based on speech and language performance deficits in the areas of receptive and expressive language skills and social pragmatic communication skills.
  • Strong clinical reasoning and professional judgment skills to ensure the safety and progress of the students.
  • Direct supervision may be exercised over support personnel, such as graduate students and volunteers.
  • Strong oral, verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to establish rapport with students with complex learning profiles
  • Ability to work on a interdisciplinary team, open to giving and receiving feedback
  • Strong time management skills and ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Ability to be flexible and take initiative
  • Knowledge of executive functioning skills training is highly preferred.
  • Be able to work with multiple distractions and changing priorities
  • Take initiative and provide consistent high-quality work with minimal supervision
  • Find creative and effective ways to solve problems, able to be flexible, open to new ideas
