High School Physics Teacher 2024-25About RISE Prep Mayoral Academy RISE Prep Mayoral Academy is a small network of college preparatory public charter schools located in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, where college preparation begins in kindergarten. Our flagship K-8 school opened its doors to our founding class of kindergarteners in August 2015, and that founding class will now become our founding class at our newly approved high school. Through a rigorous curriculum, highly structured learning environment, and character education, RISE Prep Mayoral Academy ensures that all Kindergarten through 12th grade students achieve the academic skills, content knowledge, and character required for success in college and a life of community engagement.
RISE Prep joins Rhode Island Mayoral Academies in establishing intentionally diverse schools that enroll from both urban and suburban communities. We believe that part of our mission is to teach the importance and value of diversity within classrooms and communities. Responsibilities For Physics TeacherDevelop and implement ambitious, rigorous, and standards-aligned curricula, lesson plans and activities to meet and exceed academic standards in a "physics first" approach (i.e., for ninth grade students without advanced high school math content, including Next Generation Science Standards and pre-AP Physics Encourage and develop scholars' use of scientific inquiry to understand core concepts, including through rigorous and interactive laboratory work Promote deep learning, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills, using strategies such as rigorous questioning and prompting, discussion techniques, and inquiry methods Establish a positive and supportive culture of learning and achievement, that develops interest in your content area, and the value and relevance of the learning done in class, connecting content to real-world applications and careers in the field wherever possible Differentiate classroom instruction to meet the needs of different learners, including providing relevant accommodations and scaffolding instruction where appropriate Create and maintain clear expectations, routines, and procedures to ensure productive and efficient use of class time Utilize formative and summative assessments of student mastery to drive instructional planning and provide feedback to scholars Support an advisory program that provides individualized mentorship, guidance, advocacy, and support related to their experience in school, individual learning plan (ILP), and their pathway to graduation Collaborate with other staff members and actively participate in training, professional development and learning activities Use feedback to make productive changes in performance and continuously improve effectiveness in all instructional practices Participate in additional activities including field trips, intensive academic support sessions, family conferences, and other required programs as needed throughout year Complete all administrative requirements by given deadlines Support with daily operations as needed Minimum of one year teaching experience preferred, but not required Degree in a relevant field and required Rhode Island certification strongly preferred
