Job Description
  • This position takes a lead role in all aspects of tax advisory and compliance engagements, supervising/mentoring staff, and building/maintaining relationships with clients and internal business partners.
  • Ensures business units compliance with applicable laws, regulations, regulatory requirements and Bank policies and procedures, including but not limited to those related to Fair Banking, Anti- Money Laundering laws and regulations, Bank Secrecy Act and USA Patriot Act.
Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the delivery of tax advisory/consultancy and tax compliance services of the highest quality in a timely, accurate and efficient manner.
  • Reviews tax returns for high-net-worth clients, complex gift, estates, fiduciary, and non-profit income tax returns.
  • Provides consultation on business and/or personal transactions (if applicable), and the related tax implications, consequences, and treatment.
  • Identifies additional estate and income tax planning opportunities for clients.
  • Researches and consults on various estate, gift, and trust related issues, such as trustee and beneficiary issues, generation skipping tax issues.
  • Builds relationships and interacts with relationship managers and clients to provide excellent planning and consulting, especially participating in estate planning for high-net-worth individuals and families.
  • Communicates complex tax concepts and technical expertise and serves as a resource for wealth management and the Bank as a whole.
  • Serves in professional development programs as an instructor or discussion leader.
  • Responsible for managing, coaching, and mentoring department staff including talent acquisition, compensation, performance management, training and development, and succession planning.
  • Identifies assignment resource requirements and ensure the most appropriate resources are assigned to specific assignment roles.
  • Keeps current with tax law changes and provides updates and training to the department.
  • Responsible for billing and profitability of all assigned engagements.
  • Develops innovative solutions for complicated, specialized, or new tax issues while utilizing sound business judgment.
  • Identifies and implements opportunities to enhance performance, efficiency, and management through technology.
  • Manages external vendor relationships, key initiations, and establishes and maintains appropriate oversight.
  • Monitors performance and support of vendors to ensure timely, efficient, and acceptable service according to the respective service level contract/agreement.
  • Manages vendor invoicing and maintains vendor documentation that conforms to vendor management guidelines.
  • Ensures optimal departmental performance in meeting business objectives as well as maintaining controls and regulatory, compliance and audit standards. Includes oversight of the department budget, reconciliation of accounts, audit oversight, and risk management.
  • Establishes and achieves profitability goals consistent with wealth management and organizations financial goals.
  • Manages operational expense within established organization guidelines.
  • Monitors IRS and other tax authority issues to ensure that they are properly resolved in a timely manner.
  • Involved in marketing, networking, and business development within an area of expertise and specialization. Expands network of contacts in the business community.
  • Performs other miscellaneous duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelors degree in accounting or tax from an accredited institution or equivalent work experience. Must be a CPA.
  • Minimum of 8 to 10 years of relevant work experience in taxation and tax planning with at least 3 years of supervisory/management experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working in the tax department of a public accounting firm or financial services environment, with experience leading multiple engagements and supervising staff, and an emphasis on Gift, Estate, and Trust knowledge.
  • Strong understanding of planning and compliance concepts related to high-net-worth individual and fiduciary income tax, gift tax, and estate tax.
  • Working knowledge and experience with income tax provisions pertaining to individuals, family groups, complex gifts, property exchange, high net worth individuals, partnerships, S-corporation, limited liability corporations, corporations, professional corporations, personal trusts, charitable trusts, private foundations, estates, fiduciaries, etc.
  • Working knowledge of accounting theory and federal, state, and local tax laws.
  • Technical Skills: Demonstrated proficiency with personal computers in a networked environment and Microsoft applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Teams) or similar software. Knowledge of or ability to use Bank software and systems. Familiarity with OneSource Trust Tax, CCH tax software solutions.
