What you will do

  • Responsible for complex compensation research, analysis and compliance.
  • Administration of the Company's Compensation Program (base and short-term incentives).
  • Annual salary planning and bonus administration.
  • Perform job analyses, including evaluation, internal comparison, external market pricing and external survey participation. Recommend appropriate salary grade placement or adjustments consistent with objectives regarding internal equity and external competitiveness.
  • Participate in salary and total rewards surveys and analyze survey results to determine the competitiveness of the Company's compensation package.
  • Creation of operational reports including collecting and collating data, analyzing that data for pertinent information, and creating actionable reports and/or presentations based on that information.

Position Description

Performs the functions associated with the design, communication, implementation and administration of the compensation programs.

Position-Related Responsibilities

  • Administration of the Company's Compensation Program (base and short-term incentives).
  • Gather data and prepare programs for annual salary planning and bonus administration.
  • Work with payroll to ensure timely and accurate payments are made.
  • Assist in long-term incentive administration, including preparation of spreadsheets, dividend accruals, record keeping, award agreements, distributions, and participant communications; interface with internal departments and stakeholders involved.
  • Perform job analyses, including interview, evaluation, internal comparison, external market pricing and external survey participation. Recommend appropriate salary grade placement or adjustments consistent with objectives regarding internal equity and external competitiveness.
  • Participate in salary and total rewards surveys and analyze survey results to determine the competitiveness of the Company's compensation package.
  • Creation of operational reports including collecting and collating data, analyzing that data for pertinent information, and creating actionable reports and/or presentations based on that information.
  • Prepare the Company's unclassified salary grade structure. Implement approved modifications to the structure, as necessary, to ensure a competitive posture in the labor market.
  • Prepare and distribute communications regarding employee compensation program, including preparation of total rewards statements, drafting and distributing employee communication materials.
  • Gather data and perform analyses in preparation for various compliance filings, reporting and notice requirements governed by the IRS, DOL, SEC and other governing bodies and assists in the execution thereof.
  • Analyze data and prepare tables for the Company 10-k.
  • Maintain compensation policies and procedures, including periodic review of content and proposal of appropriate revisions or additions for approval.
  • Maintain awareness of latest trends and regulations regarding compensation and total rewards to ensure program compliance and market competitiveness in support of workforce planning and strategic drivers
  • Act as liaison with both internal & external attorneys and auditors with respect to Company's compensation plans.
  • Work with Budget Planning & Analysis and Accounting to obtain timely financial reporting applicable to completion of assignments.
  • Conduct special studies regarding compensation and total rewards plan design to determine effectiveness of workforce planning outcomes and cost-effectiveness of existing program, evaluate alternatives and assess the desirability of new programs and/or modifications to existing program.
  • Perform analytical support work for Rate Cases for Tucson Electric Power (TEP), UNS Electric (UEE) and UNS Gas (UEG). Prepares exhibits and responses to data requests from regulatory agencies such as the Arizona Corporation Commission and related matters.
  • Perform analytical work to support fulfillment of data requests from stakeholders, such as senior leaders, board of directors, and Fortis Inc.
  • Assist in preparation and analyses of data to support labor agreement negotiations for TEP, UEE and UEG.
  • Ensure adherence to quality standards and approved processes, and review and document results.
  • Self-motivated, possess a strong work ethic and have the ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, time budgets, and work multiple tasks under pressure.
  • Perform other related duties as required and special projects as assigned.
  • Monitor federal and state regulations concerning compensation administration and related legislation to ensure compliance with legal requirements.
  • Support the work of the department and team.
  • This position may provide services to affiliates of the Company subject to the UNS Energy Code of Conduct and the related Policies and Procedures.

Compensation Analyst I:

  • Perform responsibilities under direct supervision, conducts compensation research and analysis.
  • Assists with preparation of compensation reports and other projects.
  • Takes initiative to grow in functional knowledge.

Compensation Analyst II:

  • Perform responsibilities with minimal guidance, conducts compensation research and analysis.
  • Prepares compensation reports and other projects.
  • Oversees a small project or phase(s) of a larger project.
  • Takes initiative to add to body of functional knowledge and demonstrates proficiency in subject matter.

Senior Compensation Analyst:

  • Has primary responsibility for complex compensation research, analysis and compliance.
  • Has a high degree of breadth and depth of functional knowledge.
  • Oversees multiple projects, one larger project, or even an ongoing program and can deliver projects to successful completion with minimal guidance.
  • Self-directed and needs minimal supervision.
  • Understands business drivers and can deliver solutions that accurately and effectively meet business needs.
  • Identifies and overcomes barriers to timely and successful completion of work assigned.
  • Identifies process improvements and recommends practices to improve effectiveness.
  • Takes ownership of data and can identify, draft and implement validation methodology to ensure that data is accurate on a global basis.
  • Coordinates and expedites resolution to problems with respect to a wide variety of matters necessary for the professional, effective and economical completion of the job.
  • Consistently delivers work without errors.
  • Collaborates for review and sign-off of own work and work of other analysts and completed projects.
  • Designs moderately complex spreadsheets and models including intermediate to advanced formulas to support analytics and report creation.
  • Ability to interpret data and find trends and takeaways to support business in decision making
  • Readily communicates the status of specific projects, programs, or on-going work.

Lead Compensation Analyst:

  • Top-level individual contributor, considered a subject matter expert.
  • Leads several complex projects at the same time, assists others on complex projects and independently delivers projects to successful completion.
  • Applies extensive knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures to handle complex tasks and provides guidance to others.
  • Participates in the development or revision of internal control procedures.
  • Designs complex spreadsheets and models including advanced formulas to support analytics and report creation.
  • Interprets data and distills into format and narrative to support leaders in making business decisions.
  • Applies creative approach to problem solving in dynamic environment.
  • Responsible for review and sign-off of work of other analysts and completed projects.
  • Understands the end result and can work backwards to identify and implement needed processes to achieve desired results.
  • Ensures that resources are available and channeled to produce the planned deliverables on time, including assignments of team members based on priorities and project requirements.
  • Readily communicates the status of specific projects, programs, or on-going work.
  • Acts as source for training of other analysts.

In addition, Lead Analyst with supervisory responsibilities is also required to:

  • Ensure that the Company's management principles, policies and programs are consistently practiced and continually support the Company's Affirmative Action Plan.
  • Comply with and administer the terms and conditions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement(s).

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Compensation Analyst I

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Proficiency in computer software applications including: (Excel) spreadsheets, (Word) word processing, (PowerPoint) presentations.
  • Ability to prioritize work and effectively manage time in order to meet deadlines with an emphasis on accuracy and attention to detail.

  • Experience working with software applications such as (Hyperion) budgeting and (PeopleSoft) human resource management system.

Compensation Analyst II

Minimum qualifications of level I plus:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Human Resources Management or comparable area of study.
  • Minimum of 3 years of compensation experience in wage/salary administration and incentive plan administration.
  • Ability to manage small projects or phases of larger projects with some supervision.
  • Broad-based business knowledge including financial analysis, project management, research, and report preparation.
  • Experience working with software applications such as (Hyperion) budgeting and (PeopleSoft) human resource management system.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Progression towards relevant professional industry certification(s).

Senior Compensation Analyst

Minimum qualifications of level II plus:

  • Minimum of 5 years of compensation experience to include experience in a compensation department in wage/salary administration, incentive plan administration and total rewards. Working knowledge of plan design in support of workforce planning.
  • Demonstrate proficiency managing medium and/or large projects with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to recognize opportunities related to business process improvement.
  • Fluent in computer software applications including: (Excel) spreadsheets, (Word) word processing, (PowerPoint) presentations.
  • Applies extensive knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures to handle complex tasks and provides guidance to others.
  • Applies understanding of stakeholder interests and relevant information to navigate communications and meetings with poise and diplomacy.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Achievement of relevant professional industry certification(s).
  • Master's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or related field.
  • Exceptional analysis and innovation skills.

Lead Compensation Analyst

Minimum qualifications of Senior Analyst plus:

  • Minimum of 2 years of supervisory/leadership or project lead experience.
  • Provides mentoring and support to other analysts on the team.
  • Superior project management skills with the ability to lead multiple business initiatives and continuous improvement efforts with little to no oversight.
  • Ability to view business areas from a strategic perspective and recommend forward-thinking solutions.
  • Ability to interface with diverse individuals from across the organization and convey complex and sensitive concepts in an accessible manner
  • Self-directed and requires minimal supervision.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Achievement of relevant professional industry certification(s).
  • Master's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or related field.
  • Exceptional analysis and innovation skills.
