Title: Senior Accountant, Property Accounting

We are currently recruiting for a Senior Property Accountant with a growing Real Estate Development Firm based here in Maryland. This role is newly created due to growth, and will be responsible for supporting the full-cycle accounting and financial reporting for a portfolio of retail and mixed-use properties, including month-end close entries, cash reporting, fixed assets, general ledger maintenance, and assisting with external auditors for year-end audit.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Responsible for preparation and review of financial statements for assigned portfolio of properties
• Prepare month-end journal entries, record monthly adjusting and accrual entries
• Ensure all transactions are properly recorded and posted in the accounting system
• Prepare lender draw packages, ensuring compliance with loan requirements
• Reconcile bank accounts and general ledger accounts on a regular basis
• Prepare monthly and quarterly complex distribution schedules and portfolio distribution schedules
• Monitor cash balances, capitals calls and distributions for investors
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records for all properties
• Prepare monthly financial statement analysis according to US GAAP
• Reconcile bank accounts and general ledger accounts on a regular basis
• Monitor and report on property cash flows and performance
• Provide financial analysis and support to property management team
• Prepare Accounting Assumptions for Insurance, Real Estate taxes, Accounting Fees, Escrows & Reserves and Loan Amortization schedule in annual budget process
• Assist with year-end annual audit and tax return preparation

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
• 3-5 years of accounting experience required
• Commercial Real Estate/ Property Accounting experience required

Preferred Qualifications:

• Retail and/or mixed-use property experience
• Public accounting experience (audit, assurance, tax)
• Advanced Excel skills
• Yardi or MRI software experience preferred
