Overview:

REPORTS TO: Laundry Supervisor.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Laundry rooms.

Job involves working:

  • under variable temperature conditions (or extreme heat or cold).
  • under variable noise levels.
  • outdoors/indoors.
  • around fumes and/or odor hazards.
  • around dust and/or mite hazards.
  • around chemicals.

KEY RELATIONSHIPS:

Internal: Employees in Housekeeping, Food & Beverage, Uniformed Hotel Personnel, Hotel Management, and Property Operations.

External: Hotel Guests, Laundry/Dry Cleaning Equipment Repair Personnel, Chemical Company Representatives.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  1. Maintain complete knowledge of and comply with all departmental policies/service procedures/standards. respond promptly and acknowledge all guests, however busy and whatever time of day.
  2. Maintain complete knowledge of correct maintenance and use of equipment. Use equipment only as intended.
  3. Anticipate guests needs,
  4. Maintain positive guest relations at all times.
  5. Be familiar with all hotel services/features and local attractions/activities to respond to guest inquiries accurately.
  6. Resolve guest complaints, ensuring guest satisfaction.
  7. Monitor and maintain cleanliness, sanitation and organization of assigned work areas
  8. Use cleaning chemicals according to OSHA regulations and hotel requirements.
  9. Adhere to all Health Department, sanitation and safety regulations.
  10. Set up and organize work station with designated supplies and equipment; replenish as needed throughout the shift.
  11. Monitor usage of chemicals and water to maximize consumption.
  12. Separate soiled bed linen/terry/food and beverage table linens; bundle and document amounts of each bundle.
  13. Sort all stained/damaged items and determine status for rewash or discard; maintain continuous inventory of discard items.
  14. Remove all debris on floors after each sorting.
  15. Weigh each bundle of soiled items; place designated weights in the laundry machines.
  16. Operate all laundry machines and add designated chemicals in accordance with specified amounts, times and temperatures for the particular articles to be washed.
  17. Remove washed articles from the washing machine when the cycle is complete. Inspect cleanliness and place in clean linen carts.
  18. Transport cart of washed linen to dryers and place in dryers according to load size. Set dryers to designated times and temperatures for the particular articles to be dried.
  19. Remove articles from dryer when cycle is complete and place in clean linen cart. Transport cart to proper work area for finishing.
  20. Operate the ironing and folder machines.. Check the cleanliness and condition of articles while processing through the machines; separate damaged/stained articles.
  21. Fold cleaned articles and stack into designated amounts by type and size. Place stacks in specified areas for distribution.
  22. Issue clean table linens and service towels/rags to Food and Beverage personnel.
  23. Document and process guest requests for laundry, dry cleaning and pressing of garments, hotel uniforms and designated management garments.
  24. Operate dry cleaning equipment and use specified chemicals. Process and finish garments according to garment labels.
  25. Separate stained/damaged hotel uniforms and determine status for repair, re-cleaning or discard; maintain continuous inventory of discard uniforms.
  26. Place finished dry cleaning garments in designated areas for distribution.
  27. Maintain accurate poundage records of dry cleaning and laundry.
  28. Report faulty equipment, damaged garments/linens, shortages, maintenance needs, safety hazards and problems to supervisor.
  29. Remove lint and debris from dryer filters and change filters.
  30. Transport trash containers to dumpster; empty and clean accordingly. Adhere to recycling procedures.
  31. Breakdown and clean work areas/equipment.
  32. Use designated chemicals, supplies and equipment to clean laundry room floor.
  33. Restock work areas for next shift as assigned.
  34. Serve our guests.
  35. Serve the other Benchmark team members who serve our guests.
  36. Perform any and all functions as directed you are a member of the entire Benchmark team, not just a member of your department.
  37. Take personal responsibility to ensure the success of the team the team succeeds because of your actions.
  38. Always put the team objectives ahead of your personal agenda.
  39. Perform the security and safety function of all Benchmark employees to ensure the security and safety of all guests and of all fellow employees - be vigilant for all safety/security issues, correct and/or report all issues immediately.
  40. Perform the housekeeping function of all Benchmark employees keep your work area clean and neat, and correct and/or report any housekeeping issues outside of your work area in the public and heart-of-the-house areas as you encounter.
  41. Perform your sales function all Benchmark employees are sales people for the company and for the property be knowledgeable of Benchmark and of all aspects of your property, and always present both in the best light to guests and to the community at large.
  42. Perform your community ambassador function get involved in your community and represent Benchmark and your property well.
  43. Always speak first and speak last to guests in a friendly, courteous manner every guest encounter should include this.
  44. Always greet co-workers in the same friendly, courteous manner never pass a fellow employee without acknowledgement.
  45. Deal with all guests and fellow Benchmark team members with respect and honesty.
  46. Present yourself properly in the work place at all times full uniform including name badge, dress/uniforms always clean and pressed, personal grooming always up to standard.

SECONDARY JOB FUNCTIONS

  1. Complete inventory of stock as assigned.
  2. Work with chemical and machine repair personnel to repair machines, improve quality or standards, increase productivity or capacity of machines.
  3. Ensure equipment receives periodic preventative maintenance.
Qualifications:

Essential:

  1. Fluency in English both verbal and written.
  2. Ability to count.

  1. High school graduate or equivalent vocational training.
  2. Previous experience in similar position.
  3. Knowledge of laundry/dry cleaning equipment and chemical handling.
  4. Knowledge of finishing techniques for all types of fabrics.
  5. Knowledge of proper chemical handling.
  6. Fluency in a foreign language.
  7. Previous guest relations training.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES

Essential:

  1. Exert physical effort in transporting 40 to 80 Pounds.
  2. Endure various physical movements throughout the work areas.
  3. Reach 6 feet.
  4. Remain in upright position for 8 hours throughout work shift.
  5. Satisfactorily communicate with guests, management and co-workers to their understanding.
