JOB TITLE: Coordinator of Secondary Curriculum and Instruction

REPORTS TO: Director of Curriculum and Instruction (Secondary)

APPROVED: September 28, 2020

This is a 12-month position for one year only. Appointment to this position is not subject to the Students First Act and will be a contracted position.

JOB SUMMARY

To provide effective supervision and direction of secondary school programs and instruction throughout the school system. To plan, implement, monitor and evaluate secondary curriculum and instruction activities and programs to improve student achievement in the school system.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide technical supervision for instructional personnel in area of secondary curriculum and instruction.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Demonstrate support for the school system and its vision, goals, and priorities.
  • Monitor the area of supervision to ensure with compliance with the policies and guidelines of the State Board of Education, AdvancED/Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, and the local school system.
  • Strive to ensure that all instructional programs are consistent with the state and local course of study and to assist teachers and administrators in the effective implementation of these programs.
  • Serve as a resource to all instructional personnel.
  • Visit classrooms for the purposes of formative observation and provide feedback to teachers for instructional improvement.
  • Assist any teacher in classroom organization, management, planning, and pedagogy as requested by local school administrators.
  • Use effective collaboration skills to work as an effective team member.
  • Assist in planning and coordinating appropriate professional learning opportunities.
  • Work cooperatively with the Superintendent and other administrative staff to ensure the system’s vision, goals and strategies are implemented and provide pertinent data to appropriate personnel within the appropriate time frame.
  • Assist school personnel with technology integration and best practices.
  • Collaborate with and assist local school administrators in planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating continuous improvement.
  • Assist with the interpretation and communication of testing data and ensures its appropriate use.
  • Assist in the selection of textbooks, supplementary instructional materials, and equipment for the implementation of the curriculum.
  • Represent the school system as directed at conferences, committee sessions, training seminars, Alabama State Department of Education meetings, and/or community meetings.
  • Participate successfully in training programs, professional development, or other learning to increase skill and proficiency related to job performance and leadership.
  • Demonstrate the ability to multi-task, delegate, and prioritize those tasks appropriately.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters.
  • Demonstrate initiative in identifying potential problems and/or opportunities for improvement in areas of responsibility.
  • Model and maintain high ethical standards.
  • Respond to inquiries, requests, constructive feedback, concerns and/or complaints in a timely and positive manner.
  • Maintain and submit required reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Adhere to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies, and state, federal, and local regulations.
  • Report absences and take leave in accordance with Board policies and procedures.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in education from an accredited university.
  • Class A certification in educational leadership or administration is required.
  • Previous successful classroom experience at the secondary level.
  • Three (3) years of successful experience as a school administrator preferred.
  • Ability to meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457.
  • Possess and maintain a valid Alabama Driver’s License.
  • Provide personal transportation or have access to appropriate transportation in order to meet job requirements.
  • Ability to interpret the impact of legislation, state Board regulations, and policies as they relate to curriculum and instruction within our school system.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to identify and solve problems as a productive team member.
  • Ability to use technology to communicate, to manage data, and to produce/submit required reports, correspondence, and/or financial information.
  • Knowledge of school system operations necessary for the effective supervision of curriculum and instruction.
  • Ability to supervise and evaluate designated personnel, manage budgets, and develop curriculum and programming specific to the needs of students.
  • Physical mobility, dexterity, strength, and visual acuity to perform essential duties of position.
  • Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule.
  • Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may require.

Pay - Per TCSS Salary Schedule. This is a 12-month position.
