REPORTS TO Head Nurse

JOB SUMMARY

To strengthen and facilitate the educational process of students by improving and protecting their health status through the coordination of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion Services and monitoring the care provided to students.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide documented supervision of the Licensed Practical Nurses as assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Identify student health problems through screenings, observation, and assessment, referrals as needed.
  • Maintain proper and accurate documentation.
  • Provide consultation to the educational staff, parents, and other appropriate groups and individuals regarding health issues.
  • Assist students, families, and school system personnel to obtain and maintain good health through education and referral to appropriate community resources.
  • Provide effective in-service education on health-related topics for school system personnel.
  • Represent the school system as directed at conferences, committee sessions, training seminars, and/or State Department of Education or community meetings.
  • Assist with the development, implementation, and evaluation of effective health education programs for the school system.
  • Knowledge of and experience with principles and theories of adult learning for effective staff development and in-service activities.
  • Ability to demonstrate effective leadership skills in group settings.
  • Ability to organize, maintain, and report data and information related to health services.
  • Ability to use effective public relations skills necessary for the successful implementation of programs, the coordination of committees, and to maintain productive relationships with colleagues, school personnel, parents, community resources, other health professionals, and students.
  • Adhere to rules and regulations per Board Policies.
  • Take leave time in accordance with Board policy and reports all absences to SubFinder in a timely manner.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information as required by school policy.
  • Assume other reasonable and equitable job-related duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
    Valid Registered Nurse license through the Alabama Board of Nursing is required. Maintain current Healthcare Provider CPR Certification. Minimum two years' nursing experience is preferred.
  • LANGUAGE SKILLS
    Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school faculty, students, and parents. Demonstrate excellent human relational skills, and ability to communicate effectively and professionally both orally and in writing with the supervising RN, administration, parents, faculty and students. Gather, analyze, and report data related to health services as required using effective written and oral communication skills. Maintain and exhibits a high level of ethical and professional standards as expected of all personnel.
  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS
    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand and walk for extended periods of time. This job also requires the ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 20 pounds.
  • TRANSPORTATION
    The job requires that you must provide reliable transportation to work sites and meet all Federal, State, and Local laws concerning vehicle registration and insurance requirements. Agree to all applicable Tuscaloosa County Board of Education employee policies and travel expense reimbursement procedures.
  • WORK ENVIRONMENT.
    Knowledge of current general medical and pediatric nursing practice. Ability to use and implement computer technology programs for documentation and communication purposes including Microsoft Office, e-mail.
