Tuscarora School District is Hiring a Technology Education Teacher for the 2024/25 School Year Near Mercersburg, PA

Position PurposeUnder the general supervision of the School Principal, to develop students' skills and competence in business and industry, technical skills, the use of technology, and the ability to problem solve in a wide variety of settings. The teacher implements a flexible secondary instructional program that provides an integrative approach to learning and a class environment favorable to academic and personal growth; establishes appropriate and effective rapport with students; motivates students to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for further education, in accordance with each student ability; and establish appropriate, effective relationships with parents and with other staff members.
Essential Functions
  • Develops and administers technology education curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives; develops technology units to be delivered in the classroom or technology lab.
  • Teaches skill and knowledge in mechanics, drafting, electricity, electronics, metalwork, graphic arts, woodworking, or related fields.
  • Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and utilizes appropriate equipment for subject area; translates lesson plans into learning experiences to develop pertinent sequential assignments, challenge students, and best utilize the available time for instruction.
  • Designs learning activities to demonstrate the application of technical skills to everyday existence, guides students in the selection of projects or experiments.
  • Instructs students in the proper and safe use, care and storage of tools, machines, and equipment.
  • Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs; conducts individual and small group instruction as needed.
  • Maintains familiarity with district and Connecticut State standardized tests for the purpose of adapting curriculum to maximize student achievement on such tests.
  • Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops, or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
  • Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
  • Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
  • Ensures that student conduct conforms to the school's standards and school district policies and establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
  • Coordinates with other professional Director of Technology, staff members, and others for the purpose of maximizing the uses and effectiveness of technology in student learning activities.
  • Selects and requisitions appropriate books, instructional aids and other supplies and equipment and maintains inventory records; ensures machines and equipment are in proper working order.
  • May deliver STEM - oriented instruction (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) through Project - Based Learning methods.
  • Teaches corporation-approved curriculum while creating a classroom and total school environment that is conducive to learning and is appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  • Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct and develops and informs students of reasonable rules concerning classroom procedures and behavior and maintains a safe and orderly classroom environment.
  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated. Employs a variety of instructional techniques, instructional media, and performance assessments, which guide the learning process toward academic achievement and curriculum goals.
  • Establishes clear objectives for all lessons, curricular units, and projects and communicates these objectives to the students. Assesses the accomplishments of students in a variety of ways on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, corporation policy, and administrative regulations. Administers and analyzes standardized testing data and adjusts instructional strategies, as needed, to maximize probability of student success.
  • Recognizes the special needs of students with learning disabilities, seeks the assistance of corporation specialists, as needed and/or required, and makes appropriate individualized physical and instructional accommodations within the classroom.
  • May serve on building level and corporation-wide committees, e.g., curriculum resource adoption, curriculum writing, test analysis.
  • Builds effective relationships with parents and students through regular communication and is available to students and parents for education related purposes, e.g., open house, conferences, extracurricular activities.
  • Participates in professional growth and development and stays abreast of current research through continuing education, educational seminars, workshops, conferences, membership in professional organizations of the subject taught, and attendance at corporation sponsored in services.
  • Teaches students to work collaboratively to solve problems and to think logically and creatively.
Additional Duties
  • Performs other related tasks as assigned by the principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Equipment

Travel Requirements
  • Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.

Skills, Knowledge, Abilities
  • Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
  • In-depth knowledge of, and ability to use, MS Office Standard (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) 2003 and 2007.
  • Knowledge of PC and MAC hardware and software.
  • Knowledge of a wide range of industrial, technical and technology related subject areas, as well as best practices in incorporating technology into student learning activities.
  • Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
  • Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation regarding performance and professional growth.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.

Certification/LicenseQualifications Profile
  • PA State Certification as a Technology Education Teacher
  • PA State Certificate in one of the following areas; Grades 4-8 (Math or Science), Mid-Level 7-9 or Secondary Education 7-12 (Math or any Science), or Technology Education PK-12; a STEM endorsement is preferred, not required; knowledge and understanding of best instructional practices; ability to engage students actively in the learning process; and interact effectively with students, staff and parents; excellent oral and written communication, organizational and computer skills is preferred.
  • Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.
Education
  • Bachelors from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
  • Masters Degree preferred.
Experience
  • Successful prior teaching experience preferred.
FLSA Status: Exempt
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONSEmployee must attain an Act 34 Criminal History Background Check, Act 151 Child Abuse History Clearance and Federal Criminal History Record every 60 months. Must satisfy Mandated Reporter Training and Act 168 requirements. Must obtain a physical examination and possess a valid driver's license. In other respects, the successful candidate must be eligible for employment according to the provisions contained in Section 1209 of the Public School Code of 1949, as amended.
