Two Rivers Public Charter School is Hiring an Assistant Principal Near Washington, DC

Assistant Principal

The Assistant Principal is an instructional leader who will focus on the core mission of Two Rivers – a stellar instructional program. The Assistant Principal will report to the Principal and is responsible for assisting the Principal with personnel and programs for the school. The Assistant Principal will help ensure academic quality, evaluate academic achievement, support teachers’ professional development, and implement high standards for student behavior. This job description is meant to provide structure to the responsibilities and accountability of this position. There may be additional responsibilities that are undertaken or that are assigned as the needs of students and or the school arise.

This is a 12-month position which is exempt and therefore not eligible for overtime pay under

the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.


Responsibilities

Instructional Leadership

  • Share in the duties of running the campus by executing an inspiring vision that is in line with the entire organization and sets high standards for students, staff, and families.
  • Ensure that instruction is effective and meets the needs of diverse learners. Ensure teachers employ techniques of active pedagogy described in EL Benchmarks and Two Rivers Curriculum Frameworks. Observe in classrooms and provide feedback to teachers on instruction. Set up instructional improvement plans as necessary.
  • Facilitate and lead common planning time meetings.
  • Coordinate and implement all standardized testing for the school. Attend district training, inform parents and teachers of testing, create a schedule, oversee test administration, and ensure test security.
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of high-quality professional development for teachers. Work with the SILT to plan professional development and new staff orientation, and to develop a comprehensive plan for new staff mentoring and training.


Intervention Programs

  • Lead a high-quality academic intervention program that closes student achievement gaps.
  • Regularly analyze student data to support teachers in delivering high-quality interventions.
  • Support the Principal with the implementation and oversight Multi-tiered System of Support (MTSS) process.
  • Co-lead and monitor the summer school program for students. Supervise and coach summer school teachers to ensure that the program is helping all students make academic growth.


Leading School Culture

  • Monitor and support the use of Responsive Classroom school-wide.
  • Develop strong relationships with families and students, creating investment around social-emotional learning, school culture, and the Two Rivers mission, and coach teachers in doing the same.
  • Work with staff to communicate regularly with families.
  • Lead all staff and students in establishing a positive, achievement-oriented, and fun school culture.
  • Oversee students’ academic and behavioral program, including disciplinary decisions, enforcement of the Student and Family Handbook, and scheduling and class decisions.


Administrative Duties

  • Collaborate with the school leadership team to complete school operational duties such as the creation of class rosters and schedules, and planning and implementing promotion ceremonies and other school-wide initiatives.
  • Lead the Student Ambassador program.


Personnel and Human Resources

  • Evaluate the performance of teaching staff, as assigned by the Principal, using Two Rivers’ procedures.
  • Participate in interview teams for available positions and when assigned by the Principal coordinate with the human resources team the selection criteria and processes for candidate selection.
  • Review and hold staff accountable to the policies outlined in the staff handbook and other personnel policies.
  • Provide all staff members with opportunities for outside professional development. Seek to connect staff with professional development in line with personal goals. Review professional development requests. Disseminate information about outside professional development.


Professional Responsibilities

  • All full-time employees are expected to work a 40-hour work week. 12-month exempt employees must begin their day no later than 9:00 am and must end their day no later than 6:00 pm unless otherwise approved by the direct supervisor as required by the School’s operational needs. 12-month employees should operate with a standard schedule that is approved by the direct supervisor and ensures teams meet all operational and coverage needs, which includes events such as after-school events and activities. School-based leadership teams must be present for arrival and dismissal. All non-exempt employees will be required to be provided a non-duty unpaid lunch.
  • Be on time for meetings, duties, and professional development activities.
  • Observe proper decorum, including adherence to dress codes and proper courtesies and respect in all dealings with students, parents, guardians, visitors, and fellow employees.
  • Attend and participate in school events.
  • Check voicemail and email daily and respond promptly to requests from parents, administrators, and colleagues.
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
