Tycko & Zavareei LLP is currently seeking LEGAL ASSISTANT candidates for an immediate opening in its Washington, D.C. office. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, with preference given to those received before August 25, 2024.

Our Legal Staff: Our litigation support team, comprised of legal assistants and paralegals, is an essential cog in the firm’s operational wheel. These legal staff work closely with our attorneys in all aspects of litigation, from early case development through final resolution, and provide simultaneous support to multiple case teams. They are highly efficient, profuse with details, and masters of juggling multitudinous tasks to get the job (many jobs) done.
CURRENT OPENING
Position: Legal Assistant
Start Date: September (early/mid)
Location: Washington, D.C.
We offer a hybrid working arrangement; routine in-office work is required. Applicants must be able to reliably commute to our office (Metro-accessible) on average 2-3 days per week.
Hours: Full-Time (40 hours/week); Non-Exempt
Monday through Friday, 9:00am–5:30pm; occasional overtime
Role Overview
The Legal Assistant is a hybrid junior paralegal-legal secretary role providing enhanced administrative and clerical support to legal teams and internal departments, and fulfilling firmwide customer service needs. Legal Assistants play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth daily operation of the firm’s litigation matters, by managing litigation administrative tasks and assisting case teams with basic legal functions.
Responsibilities
  • Manage litigation administrative tasks.
  • Assist paralegals with basic legal functions.
  • Assist with ad hoc litigation tasks.
  • Assist other staff departments with administrative and clerical functions when necessary, including with basic legal tasks and document preparation.
  • Facilitate effective communication within legal teams and the firm as a whole.
Sample Day-to-Day
  • Assisting with case-opening procedures
  • Sending agreements and contracts for signature
  • Managing attorney calendars and scheduling appointments
  • Assisting with document organization and file management
  • Drafting correspondence
  • Assisting with basic document preparation and proofreading
  • Assisting with discovery productions and document review
  • Assisting with court filings and proceedings
  • Preparing time and expense reports
  • Coordinating and organizing meetings and conferences
  • Assisting with billing and invoicing tasks
  • Coordinating technology needs
Qualifications
  • Must-Haves:
    • Bachelor’s degree
    • Enthusiasm for public interest work
    • Extraordinary attention to detail
    • Excellent writing and proofreading skills
    • Experience conducting effective research using various research tools
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and familiarity with Adobe
    • Aptitude for learning and working in different computer systems
    • Flexibility to work overtime on occasion
    • Unflappable professionalism
  • Must-Bes:
    • Team-minded
    • Hyper-organized and impeccable with deadlines
    • Able to prioritize and work at a fast pace on a high volume of tasks and projects—in other words, well-versed in multi-tasking effectively, working well under pressure, and independent decision-making
    • A proactive and effective communicator—comfortable frequently emailing and calling clients, court staff, and co-workers
  • Great-to-Haves:
    • Prior experience in an administrative or legal support role
    • Familiarity with Westlaw and PACER
    • Familiarity with state and federal court systems
    • Previous legal billing experience
Compensation
  • Base pay range: $25.00–$27.00/hour (commensurate with experience)
