Structural Engineering Department Manager-Position Overview

The Structural Engineering Department Manager position at Tyndall Engineering & Design, PA (TE&D) is a cornerstone to the proper functioning of the structural engineering department. It is also a key role in the Tyndall Engineering and Design, PA growth plan. This position currently reports directly to the President and will be accountable in the Raleigh branch of achieving a significant amount (approx. 36%) of the firm overall revenue growth target.

In this leadership role you will help define, develop, and manage the employee team that has responsibility for the Structural Engineering of project plans. Also, as part of this role you will lead/assist in the current work in progress to develop department process standards and a rigorous department production management and results management process to ensure the structural engineering team meets financial and operational performance targets.

Strong leadership and communication skills are a must, both written and verbal. You are a problem solver, self-starter, and have a strong attention to detail and organization. You are collaborative and customer focused. We're looking for someone with at least three (3) to five (5) years of management experience in the structural engineering industry, obtain North Carolina PE licensure within one (1) year of employment, and the ability to complete frontline work as required.

We don't expect you to match every requirement, but you should have a proven record managing engineering and field resources, achievement of financial goals, and a strong individual contributor engineering skill set. You must demonstrate the ability to lead the achievement of company goals while developing a strong team needed for future growth.

Required (Minimum) Qualifications(Input to this section and the Preferred from Matrix detail) :

  • Bachelors of Science in Civil Engineering (BSCE).
  • 9 to 12 years of working in an Engineering type position in a small to medium firm.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in structural engineering and/or field technician management positions.
  • Obtain North Carolina PE licensure within one year of employment.
  • CAD skill set and ability to train others in CAD.
  • Experience hiring, training, and developing engineers and technicians as individuals and team members.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and deploy Process Standards (SOP’s)/Task Checklist utilized for training and scaling a technical organization.
  • 2 to 4 years of experience in Residential Structural Engineering work.
  • Strong, professional presentation and communication skills.
  • Honest and ethical.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Has developed and implemented Training and Process standards before for other companies.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in Commercial Structural Engineering work.
  • Business development experience or demonstrates strong ability to relate to customers and get more business.

Responsibilities

Responsible for working with the President to achieve annual revenue and profitability goals for the Triangle Market.

Leadership of the Triangle Structural Engineering team in executing daily/weekly/monthly service production plans that complete work on time/on budget and result in satisfied customers.

Build and maintain a structural engineering organization through the disciplined hiring, training, and development of individual team members.

Establish and maintain standard work processes and tools that support best practices execution of structural engineering plans and related activities.

Effectively participate as a member of the Tyndall Engineering and Design, PA leadership team collaborating with the President, peers, and employees to build long term plans to grow the business.

Represent Tyndall Engineering & Design, PA externally by participating actively in professional HBA, Architecture, and Professional Engineering organizations.
