Duties
As a Managing Editor (Spanish), you will be responsible for duties to include, but are not limited to:
  • Editorial Responsibilities
    • Responsible for day-to-day oversight of content management across multiple platforms (radio, television, and digital mediums).
    • Ensures alignment of OCB's editorial content with organizational goals and standards.
    • Orchestrates the editorial process within OCB's news operation, planning and executing coverage for timely distribution.
    • Monitors diverse sources (wires, websites, publications, social media) to curate compelling content while upholding journalistic standards.
    • Formulates short-term and long-term production and publishing plans for OCB content.
    • Assigns stories to writers and editors, ensuring quality control over all distributed content.
    • Reviews and evaluates news sources for coverage.
  • Supervisory Responsibilities
    • Manages a team of journalists, reporters, broadcasters, anchors, and editors through subordinate supervisors.
    • Develops work plans, sets priorities, and prepares schedules.
    • Conducts interviews for vacant positions and recommends appointments/promotions/reassignments.
    • Provides guidance, identifies training needs, and improves productivity.

  • You must be a U.S Citizen or U.S. National.
  • This is a national security position.If selected, this position requires the completion of the SF-86.
  • Suitability Determination: If selected, you will be subject to a background investigation to establish your suitability for federal employment. The background investigation may include, among other aspects, a review of your credit and legal history.
  • This position is not covered by a Union Agreement.
  • This position has been designated supervisory requiring that the selectee serve on an initial appointment as a supervisor or manager serve a one-year probationary period. This position may also require serving a one-year probationary period.
  • If selected for this vacancy, you will be required to file the OGE Form 450 (Confidential Financial Disclosure Report).
  • The full performance grade level for this position is GS-14.
  • If you are a male applicant who is born after 12/31/59, you are required to be registered for the Selective Service.
Qualifications
Screen out factor #1 : Applicant must be eligible for an Excepted Service appointment under Schedule B, 213.3228. This appointment authority requires that the selectee have extensive knowledge of Cuba, including its people, culture, history, politics, economics, and current events. This extensive knowledge MUST be clearly articulated in your resume to receive consideration.
Screen out factor #2 : Applicant must have fluency in both English and Spanish languages that enables you to speak, read, write, report, and translate in both languages. This language screen out factor MUST be listed in your resume to receive consideration.
Applicants must have a minimum of one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility comparable to the GS-13 or comparable pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private sector. Specialized Experience is experience, which is clearly documented in the resume and application, and which demonstrates that the applicant possesses the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position and includes all of the following:
  • Assessing, evaluating, or monitoring programs to ensure particular interest to a Cuban audience.
  • Managing a diverse team of content creators and journalists producing print, digital, and social media content.
  • Journalism, reporting and/or editorial experience that demonstrates a knowledge of Cuba its history, economics, culture, socio-political development, and the full range of journalistic skills to select materials, tone, and style that will be most appealing to this audience.
