U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is Hiring a Nurse (Occupational Health) Near Vicksburg, MS

Duties

  • Coordinates medical support services as related to all program requirements.
  • Works in coordination with the District, Safety, Designated Dive Coordinator (DDC), supervisors and others to identify and monitor personnel with potential exposure to blood borne pathogens.
  • Provides a comprehensive Occupational Health Nursing Program to promote the occupational health, efficiency and well-being of civilian employee personnel .
  • Visits work areas to keep informed about work operations and potential hazards, and assists in creation of PHA’s to promote insight and cooperation among supervisors, employees.
  • Serves as the District/Field Operating Activity Drug Program Coordinator (District/FOA DPC).

Requirements

Conditions of Employment

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must possess and maintain a current, valid, active Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Must obtain and maintain current certification by the Council for Accreditation in Occupational Hearing Conservation (CAOHC) within 1 year of appointment.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain current certification by a NIOSH approved training program in spirometry techniques within 1 year of appointment.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a CPR Certificate and CPR teaching certificate within first year of assignment.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain clinical titer testing or proof of immunity for Rubella, Rubeola, and Hepatitis B within 3 months of appointment.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid State motor vehicle operator's license.
  • Must be able to lift items up to 25 pounds.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is, therefore, subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
  • Applicants tentatively selected for appointment to this position will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination.
  • This is a Mission Essential position and is not subject to administrative dismissal in emergencies based on inclement weather conditions, or other emergency situations, as appropriate.
  • A Mission Essential employee is required to report for, or remain at, work in emergency situations; dismissal or closure announcements do not apply to him/her unless his/her supervisor instructs otherwise.
  • This position meets the criteria for random drug testing under the Department of Army Drug-Free Workplace Program as supplemented by USACE ER 690-1-1218.
  • Incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019, Condition of Employment for Certain Civilian Positions Identified Critical Under the Department of the Army Drug-Free Federal Workplace Program.
  • Position is designated as NON-SENSITIVE (NS)/NO ACCESS

Qualifications

Basic Requirement for Nurse (Occupational Health):
Degree:
A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S.Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.).
Licensure:
A current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States; and you must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination.
Foreign Degree: A degree from a Foreign Nursing School. Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.
Exemption: You are exempt from the basic requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0610occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before. Applicants claiming this exemption must meet the requirement below. Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status.
  • Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant;
AND
  • Active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Minimum Qualifications GS-11:
Education and Experience: A diploma, associate degree, or bachelor's degree in Nursing from a professional nursing program and possession of at least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-9 grade level or above) which includes: 1). Assisting in the management of a medical surveillance program such as, surveillance physicals, Blood Borne Pathogen (BBP), drug testing, respiratory protection, hearing conservation, vision, etc. 2). Maintaining employee occupational health medical records and/or records database. 3). Developing medical surveillance packets for required examinations, labs, and/or special test as they relate to an employee's position. This definition of professional nursing experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
OR
Education: A PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field.
EXEMPTION: You are exempt from the qualification requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0610occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before. Applicants claiming this exemption must meet one of the requirement below. Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status.
  • Completion of all requirements for a doctoral degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) from a professional nursing program;
OR
  • 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education from a professional nursing program.
Minimum Qualifications for GS-12:
Professional Nursing Experience: One or more full years of professional nursing experience which includes: 1). Develops and manages an organization's occupational health program. 2). Provides referrals, consultations, and counseling on a wide range of health subjects such as nutrition, dentition, care of minor injuries and illnesses. 3). Experience with urine drug collection (UDC) standards and controlling chain of custody. 4). Develops train-the- trainer classes on operation and use of AEDs and teaching CPR. This definition of professional nursing experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

Education

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university. Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.
