U.S. Army Sustainment Command is Hiring a Transportation Assistant (Personal Property). Near Fort Belvoir, VA

Duties
  • Determine and/or advise entitlements or procedures related to temporary storage of goods, weight allowances; prohibited items; and shipment of personal property including various methods available.
  • Provide information and/or advice to military and civilian personnel regarding their entitlements for shipment and storage of personal property.
  • Receive, review, and/or process correspondence, orders, and applications to move property from residence and non-temporary storage.
  • Forward appropriate advance documents to other transportation offices for movement of property both overseas and within the continental United States.
  • Determine the most efficient and economical rates and routes for shipment and/or storage of household goods, unaccompanied baggage, personal effects, and/or mobile homes.

  • Appointment to this position is subject to a background investigation to determine your suitability for Federal employment.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience.
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Determining and/or advising on personal property entitlements such as shipment storage of personal baggage, household goods, firearms, and/or personally owned vehicles; and 2) Determining and/or advising on liabilities, claims, and/or protection of personal property. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:

  • Transportation
Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06).
Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.Additional information
  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
