QualificationsINDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENTThis position has an Individual Occupational Requirement that must be met prior to meeting the specialized experience.
Applicant must possess IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four (4) competencies listed below:

  • Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
  • Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

Specialized ExperienceTo qualify for the GS-15 grade level you must possess and have documented in your resume, one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 grade level in Federal service or equivalent public or private sector experience performing the following tasks:
  • Collaborating closely with data scientists, software engineering teams, cybersecurity teams, policy, privacy, and civil rights and civil liberties stakeholders to formulate and test hypotheses for how AI/ML can help advance important missions while ensuring the responsible, safe, and secure use of this technology.
  • Engaging with users and stakeholders to analyze opportunities for new or improved processes, solutions, or strategies that leverage AI/ML technologies and capabilities.
  • Independently researching, leading and supporting major policy or project initiatives for AI/ML, providing both consultation and substantive input on systems or policy proposals, and/or providing technical policy and programmatic guidance to government leaders at the most senior levels.

The salary ranges vary according to the geographic area locality adjustments; therefore, rates advertised represent base pay only as pay will depend upon the duty location of the selectee. Please see the 2024 General Schedule (opm.gov) locality pay tables for more information.
