This announcement is for the Southeast Region - Great Smokey Mountain National Park. Please refer to the "Location" section to see which National Parks are included on this announcement.
The NPS has replaced existing and previously classified Visitor Use Assistant positions (series 0303) with the Recreation Fee Clerk and Technician position (series 0503).
Duties
Recreation Fee Clerk & Technician Standard Duties :
Additional duties for GS-04 :
Operate an electronic cash register, computer, or Point of Sale (POS) system to conduct financial transactions; perform opening and closing functions;
issue entrance receipts, tour tickets, permits, etc.
Inventory and / or restock fee program supplies and assist with placing orders and preparing requisition requests for equipment / supplies needed.
Additional duties for GS-05 :
Assist higher level personnel with auditing fee collection program components / systems (e.g. cash registers, road / trail registers, honor systems, automated fee machines or AFMs, donation boxes, etc.
assist in completing audit paperwork and documenting findings; communicate audit results to supervisor.
Prepare and complete remittance reports and bank deposits for funds donated and / or collected by others. Review shift reports and count funds collected;
Investigate and proactively resolve routine or recurring discrepancies, and track overages, shortages, and errors.

You will also submit a photocopy of your valid State issued driver's license prior to your first official motor vehicle operation, and again every year, or more frequently if management determines such need exists.
Lastly, you may be required to submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that discloses all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you.

Qualifications
All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-09 / 13 / 2024 (unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement).
Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month / year), and the resume must reflect full and / or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.
e., work 40 hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount qualified specialized experience.
Quality Ranking Factor : Handling Money - able to handle, collect, and account for money .
To qualify for this position at the GS-03 level, you must possess one of the following :
A. Six months of progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that demonstrates my ability to acquire the
knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of Recreation Fee Clerk.
B. One year of education above high school (30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours) from an accredited institution.
C. Equivalent combination of experience and education that, together, equal 100% of the qualification standards listed above when combined.
To qualify for this position at the GS-04 level, you must possess one of the following :
A. One year of progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that demonstrates my ability to acquire the knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of Recreation Fee Clerk.
B. Two years of education above high school (60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours) leading to a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
C . Equivalent combination of experience and education that, together, equal 100% of the qualification standards listed above when combined.
To qualify for this position at the GS-05 level, you must possess one of the following :
A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of Recreation Fee Technician, GS-0503-05.
Examples of specialized experience include : handling, tracking, or depositing monies; using software programs to maintain financial / accounting data (such as fee and stock data);
performing fee collection, accounting or financial duties; or using tools or equipment (e.g., cash registers, calculators, etc.
to make sales transactions; ensuring accountability of funds and accurate financial records.
B. Four years of education above high school (120 semester hours or 180 quarter hours) from an accredited institution. NOTE : Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.
e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience.
C. Equivalent combination of experience and education that, together, equal 100% of the qualification standards listed above when combined.
NOTE : Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement.
One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience.
ICTAP / CTAP Statement : Current surplus and current or former displaced Federal individuals who have special priority selection rights under the Agency Career Transition Assistance Program (CTAP) or the Interagency Career Transition Assistance Program (ICTAP) must be well qualified for the position to receive consideration for special priority selection.
