U.S. Department of the Treasury is Hiring a Financial Economist Near Washington, DC

Duties
As A/an Financial Economist, You Will
  • Plan and conduct research projects, and prepare analyses and evaluations of specific developments and proposals relating to taxes.
  • Develop models to analyze the economic consequences of these tax proposals.
  • Organize relevant data and appropriate statistical analyses to produce displays of useful information.
  • Analyze proposals such as changes in tax rates, changes in the measurement of taxable income, introduction of alternative tax provisions to modify economic behaviors, and modifications of technical provisions of the Federal tax code and regulations.
  • Project consequences of such proposals for conditions such as investment, savings, distribution of income, and Federal tax receipts.

  • Must be U.S. Citizen or U.S. National.
  • A one-year probationary period may be required.
  • Must successfully complete a background investigation.

  • Complete a Declaration for Federal Employment to determine your suitability for Federal employment, at the time requested by the agency.

  • If you are a male applicant born after December 31, 1959, certify that you have registered with the Selective Service System or are exempt from having to do so.
  • Go through a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) process that requires two forms of identification from the Form I-9. Federal law requires verification of the identity and employment eligibility of all new hires in the U.S.
  • Obtain and use a Government-issued charge card for business-related travel.

QualificationsYou must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
Specialized experience for the GS-15: To be qualified for GS-15 level, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-14 grade level in the federal service. This is equivalent to performing the following duties for a minimum of one year:
Analyze, interpret, and provide information, analysis, technical advice, and recommendations on transfer pricing rules. Analysis should be supported with statistical, mathematical, and econometric modeling techniques; economics theory; and judgment; AND
Establish methods and modeling to support transfer pricing policy objectives.
The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. To ensure full credit for your work experience, please indicate dates of employment by month/day/year, and indicate number of hours worked per week on your resumé.
Education
The education generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. If you are qualifying based on foreign education, you must submit proof of creditability of education as evaluated by a credentialing agency. Refer to the OPM instructions.
Education Requirements
  • Degree: economics, that included at least 21 semester hours in economics and 3 semester hours in statistics, accounting, or calculus.
OR
  • Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in economics, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
Examples Of Qualifying Experience IncludeIndividual economic research assignments requiring planning, information assembly, analysis and evaluation, conclusions and report preparation;
supervisory or project coordination assignments involving a staff of professional economists, and requiring the evaluation and interpretation of economic information; or teaching assignments in a college or university that included both class instruction in economics subjects and one of the following (1) personal research that produced evidence of results, (2) direction of graduate theses in economics, or (3) service as a consultant or advisor on technical economics problems.
Experience in related fields that did not involve the use and understanding of economic principles and theories may not be used as qualifying experience for these positions. Special attention on this point should be given to certain types of work that may or may not have provided professional economic experience.
